Why is quickbooks online mandating employees to choose a class when clocking in / out? If I remove the class mandate within payroll it eliminates class from accounting

It is possible that the Warn me when a transaction isn't assigned a class option in the Accounts and Settings is enabled,  @Sheri. This setting triggers employees to choose a class each time they enter their time in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

You don't need to disable class tracking entirely. This lets you maintain class categorization for reporting while avoiding the need for employees to select a class each time they clock in and out.

 

If you want to turn off the warning, follow these steps:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under YOUR COMPANY, select Accounts and settings.
  3. In the Categories section, click the Pencil icon.
  4. Uncheck the Warn me when a transaction isn't assigned a class box.
  5. Select Save, then Done.

 

Please note that disabling this warning will also apply to transactions made in QuickBooks and will stop the prompt moving forward. Changes made within your QuickBooks account will automatically reflect in QuickBooks Time, impacting how employees track their time and ensuring consistency and accuracy, which simplifies payroll and reporting.

 

However, if you don't want to use classes in QuickBooks Time, you can disable class tracking from there, which will remove the option for employees to select a class.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. In your Accounts and settings, go to the Time menu.
  2. Click the Pencil icon in the Timesheet fields section.
  3. Uncheck the Class option, then hit Save.
