Workstation cannot connect to company file after upgrade to QB Premier Professional Services 2021.

Hello all,


We recently upgrade from QB Premier Professional Services 2019 to 2021. Our setup is a server and one workstation. The problem is that the workstation cannot open the company file when someone is accessing the file on the server. If no one is logged on the server, the workstation connects to the file just fine. The error I get is:


"It appears that the QuickBooks software on computer [name of their server] is set up to allow shared connections to the company file, but the QuickBooks software on your computer is unable to communicate with it."


I have called QB about it a couple of times and we go through all the troubleshooting like making sure firewall exceptions are there, its on multi user mode, running file doctor and server manager. I honestly spent like 3 hours on a single call once and no luck.  We checked permissions and that sharing was working. QB 2019 was working fine without any issues, the only difference is upgrading to 2021. We even wiped and reloaded the OS on the workstation (Windows 10) and reinstalled QB on the workstation but nothing seems to work. Do  you guys have any thoughts or anything else I can look into?

Looks like you've done all the possible troubleshooting steps to fix the error when connecting your workstation to the company file after upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest version (2021). And I bet, you're referring to the steps provided in the following articles below:


If so, this requires further investigation and I suggest you give our phone support team a call. I know that you've already reached us for the same issue. However, they have the necessary tools to help analyze the reason why you're still getting the error after all the troubleshooting performed.


Here are the steps to contact support:


  1. Click Help at the top menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. In the Have a Question? window, enter a topic.
  3. Click Contact us.
  4. Hit the Stat Messaging button.

Thanks for the reply. A tech and I went through all the steps on those articles. I would be happy to get a call going with someone that can help. The problem is that every time I call, and at this point it has been around 4 calls, I go through the same steps over and over and we haven't gotten anywhere. It seems every time I call, the issue does not get escalated. Here is a time I was on hold for three hours where my tech was reaching out to people before the call ended and I never got a call back. I spent another two hours with another tech on Wednesday and we agreed he would call me back on Friday to continue but he never called back. I just don't know what to do. I can't seem to think of anything in my environment causing the issue but the phone support hasn't yielded any results.
