Hey there, @Lauri.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

Your QuickBooks version will accommodate the new 1099-NEC form as long as you have the following completed:

For more information about 1099 forms in QBDT and when to file them, you can check out this article: Learn what 1099 forms there are and how you can prepare for the 2020 tax season.

1099-NEC

Our compliance team is still working closely with the IRS for proper guidance regarding the 1099-NEC form, @CherieS.

This is to ensure that we can implement this in QuickBooks correctly at the soonest time possible. Meanwhile, you can print a copy of the said form through the IRS website

For more updates about this, please check out this article: Latest payroll news and updates. Also, I encourage you to visit our QuickBooks blog page to get you in the loop about the recent news and product release.

You'll want to know how to access and print your tax forms so you have a copy om hand. Please refer to this article for the detailed steps: View and print payroll tax forms.

For your second concern, QuickBooks Online is dependent on your browser's printer settings. Also, the troubleshooting steps depends on the issue you're having. If you're using Windows, you can refer to this article on how to resolve them: Fix QuickBooks Online printing issues on browsers for Windows.

On the other hand, if you're utilizing the Safari browser in Mac, please see this article for the steps: Troubleshooting printing problems in Safari.

You'll want to know how to access and print your tax forms to save a copy on hand. Please refer to this resource for the detailed instructions: View and print payroll tax forms.

I'll be here to lend a hand if you have follow-up questions or any QuickBooks concerns. Have a good one.

Will my Desktop Premier 2018 be updated with the 1099-NEC form?

I do not use quick books for payroll as we are a union contractor and we have complicated payroll with union dues, etc.

Will this come thru as a quick books system update?  When will the software be updated?  Thanks!

1099-NEC

I've got the information that you need regarding the 1099-NEC form update in QuickBooks, @goat lady.

Yes, your QuciBooks Desktop 2018 will still be able to have the 1099-form once the update is released. Know that you can get product updates before May 31, 2021.

To learn more on what will happen to the 2018 version of QuickBooks after the said date, please see this link: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.

On the other hand, we didn't receive any turnaround time yet on when is the availability of the form in QuickBooks Desktop. Rest assured, our payroll team is working nonstop to stay in compliance with the IRS and payroll tax regulations.

Please know that you can monitor any QuickBooks updates and future enhancements through this link: Product Updates.

I'd also recommend updating your QuickBooks regularly. This way, whenever there are updates, it will sync into the system immediately.

Here's how to update your QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Refer to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Lastly, I'd like to add this great reference that you can use to help you with modifying your chart of accounts for 1099-NEC filing: Learn what you need to do in QuickBooks Desktop if you need to file both a 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.

I'm always ready to lend a helping hand if there's anything else that you need. Have a lovely day ahead!

No, this does not work. Round and round we go. This continues to print 1099 MISC forms which are not valid for 2020 contractors. Quickbooks needs to update to give the option to print 1099 NEC forms. But I'm screaming into a void here. I see so many people posting the same problem and your team keeps giving the same unhelpful answer. PLEASE know that details matter. Big difference between just "print 1099s" as you suggest and PRINT 1099 NEC forms. But you just keep repeating the same dead end scripted answers.

I'm on QBES20 and have been trying for hours to get updates because that's what QB says i have to do in order to get into the 1099 wizard from the vendors menu.  in parenthesis it says (Update Quickbooks), which i've done like 6 times now on my pc and on my server, single user mode, restart QB......... I CAN get into the wizard via Edit/Preferences/1099's/Company Tab, BUT still doesn't address anything to do with 1099NEC.  today is january 3rd, we now only have 27 days to make this happen for 100 clients.  Thanks Intuit, you've known about this for a year (i already ordered and received teh IRS forms, and if they can be ready, so can you).   I even did the full reset update to be sure along with several other suggestions, verify data, etc.

We need help, not rhetoric.

Yes, preprinted 1099 NEC forms are compatible with QB Desktop Pro 2018, AmyB24.

You'll want to make sure to update QuickBooks to the latest release and have the latest payroll update to prevent any issues.

Please check this article for more information: Tax Year 2020 - Instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.

Let me make things clear to avoid any confusion, AmyB24.

If you have already updated QuickBooks to the latest release and have already got the latest payroll update, but is still having issues with 1099 NEC forms, make sure that your hosting providers are authorized by Intuit to host QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2018 version.

If they are hosted, they will need for their host to install the latest update before they will see 1099-NEC's. Right Networks is scheduled to release theirs this weekend

You can browse any of these help articles for your reference, in case you have some questions about QuickBooks.

Reply comment on this thread if you have questions about 1099 NEC forms. I'll always be here in case you need further assistance.

All Misc Income is showing in box 4 fed income tax withheld?  What is going on?

Rose-A
Moderator

1099-NEC

Let's get this sorted out, Alexann.

I can share some information on why your income is showing in box 4. QuickBooks adds up all payments made to a vendor from any account you've associated with any of these boxes on the 1099 form.

To isolate this issue, I recommend checking the account type used for vendor payments. Make sure you're using the correct account.

Once done, you can go to 1099 wizard and map the accounts from there.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Vendors, then select Print/E-file 1099s.
  2. Select the 1099 Wizard, then select Get Started.
  3. On the Map vendor payment accounts page, select Continue.
  4. For each account you used to pay 1099 vendors, select the drop-down arrow in the 1099 box column.
  5. Choose the appropriate box on where these payments should appear (i.e., if you associate the rents paid to the owner, you should choose Box 1 for the Rent account.)

Each account may only be mapped to one 1099 box. If you are unsure of which account to use, the assistance of an accountant is a must.

To know how QuickBooks mapped your 1099 payments in each line, you can go through this article: QuickBooks Desktop behavior: 1099. This will provide you a detailed explanation on they are reported in the form.

We’re always here to help if you have any other 1099 concerns or questions about the QuickBooks forms. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Take care.

I just spent a hellacious 3 hours trying to print a handful of NEC forms, because QB isn't able to print the total on the correct line.  Happy I'm not alone here.

I made myself a template in Word, if anyone wants to borrow it.  I'll just have to use this until QB fixes this.  It's a bit disappointing I had manually do this, when it's a lot easier to just print off.

Hopefully this helps someone else.  :)
