Can I customize the date a finance charge begins?

We have not charged finance charges for awhile and want to start charging now. I want to charge from today, or another specific date and not from when the original amount was due. Is there a way to do this? I have Quickbooks 2016 but will be updating shortly

Can I customize the date a finance charge begins?

Hi there, @farmgirl!

You can customize the Assessment Date of your finance charge. I'm here to help achieve this.

  1. Go to the Customers menu bar.
  2. Select Assess Finance Charges.
  3. On the Assessment Date field, choose a specific date to begin your charges.

Once done, this will be the date where you will start assessing your finance charge.

I've attached an article you can read to learn more about finance charges: Assess Finance Charges.

In addition, you have the option to select when to calculate charges. It's either from the Due date or the Invoiced/Billed date.

Here's a screenshot for your visual reference.

Fill me in if you have any other questions. It'll be always my pleasure to help.

Can I customize the date a finance charge begins?

This is exactly what I need to do for Quickbooks Enterprise. Not certain what version I’m running, whatever is current as of 2/15/20.

Any help to update the start date for assessing finance charges is most appreciated.

Can I customize the date a finance charge begins?

Hello DEHolz,

If you are referring to the first date of the finance charge, you can look for the invoice that has a number that starts with FC.

The finance charges are recorded as individual invoices in QuickBooks. You can still look to your transactions base on the date and edit it. Either on the due date or on the Invoice/Bill date.

You can create finance charges at any time as long as the transaction appears on the Asses Finance charges.

For additional information on how to manage your QuickBooks account, feel free to visit this article: Help articles. I’m sure you’ll find it helpful.

DEH, I’m always around if you need additional help. Take care!
