can not change customer payment date on a mac quickbooks 2020

When I enter a payment the date is populated with todays date. When I hit the calendar icon linked to the date it does not drop down, so I manually type in the date and hit save. It reverts back to todays date. payment was made yesterday. there must be a setting I have turned on that is stopping me from changing the date.

Thanks in advance

can not change customer payment date on a mac quickbooks 2020

Hi there, @TotalHome.

It's possible that the Use current date as default on a new transaction box is being checked in your transaction preference. You'll have to uncheck this so that the system will allow you to change the payment date.

To do this, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to QuickBooks menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Then choose Transactions.
  4. Uncheck the Use current date as default on a new transaction box.

This will save you the right payment date successfully.

You can find this preference to this PDF guide for QuickBooks for Mac 2020 on page 280.

If you need to change more settings in preferences, you can press on Command + F to search for a certain topic using the PDF guide like sale and tax preferences and toolbar preferences.

Feel free to post again if you need further assistance. I'm always here to lend you a hand. Take care, TotalHome!

Ok so I made that change and tried to input a payment from two days ago. Click on the calendar which wouldn't populate previously. Made the date change and as soon as I ht save or click somewhere else on the page it defaults back to todays date. its hard to send someone a statement when the dates don't match up

Thanks for following up with us, @TotalHome.

I appreciate you following the steps provided by my colleague above. I'm happy to lend a helping hand with your customer's payment dates.

Since you've unchecked the Use current date as default on a new transaction box and still have issues, I recommend checking your file for data integrity that can cause these types of concerns. You can scan your file and resolve most data integrity issues by running a Rebuild and Verify. I've included the steps below to do this.

To Rebuild:

  1. Open the File menu, then select Utilities.
  2. Hit Rebuild Data, then click OK to close all windows.
  3. QuickBooks will ask to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, then tap OK. If you don’t want to do a backup, select Cancel to continue rebuilding your company file.
  4. Once the rebuild's finished, click OK.

To Verify:

  1. Select File, then hit Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data, then tap OK to close all windows.

Check out more details in Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. I'll be here to guide you every step of the way. As always, you can reach out to the Community or me at any time. Enjoy the rest of your evening!

I've got some additional troubleshooting steps to help you change the payment date in QuickBooks, @shamith39.

Let's ensure that your system is updated to its latest release. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click the QuickBooks▼ dropdown, and choose Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
  3. When prompted, pick Install and Relaunch.
  4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

Once done, attempt to change the payment date again. If the issue persists, I suggest consulting our technical support team. This way they can further investigate the root cause of the issue and provide steps to fix it for you. Here's how:

  1. Head to the Contact support page at this link.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Mac
  3. Click on Search for something else and enter a brief description of your concern in the search box.
  4. Hit Search.
  5. Select Start a Message.
