Duplicate Customer Account Numbers

Thanks for checking in with us, AmithS.

I can provide you with some information about duplicate customer account numbers in QuickBooks Desktop.

Setting up a warning to prompt in QuickBooks Desktop if you have duplicate account numbers assigned to your customer is currently unavailable. If you'd like to have the option to set a warning directly in QuickBooks, I suggest you let our Product Development Team know so they'll consider this in a future update.

To send feedback:

  1. Go to Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Click on Send Feedback Online.
  3. Select Product Suggestion.
  4. Enter your feedback or feature request.
  5. Click on Send Feedback.

If you Right Click the Names List in Customer Center, you can choose Customize Columns. Now add Account Number to your view here. When you want to Sort the view of a list, you click on the column header title, so click to Sort ascending or descending (click, then click, to see the little arrow change from up to down to up) and sort on the Account Number column. When you are done, click the large diamond, top left of Name, to put the Customer Center back into native sort sequence. And if you realize the Names are not in sequence from new customers being added to the top, you use View menu > Re-Sort List.

This no longer works, when I select Customize Columns and display Account No., the Notes column is shown instead.

Hello bathsheba,

Here's the detailed steps on how to add a column in the Customer Center:

  1. In the Customer Center window, highlight a customer profile.
  2. Click the Transactions tab below the Customer Information section.
  3. Right-click on the available columns and select Customize Columns.
  4. This will open the Customize columns window. In the Available Columns box, make sure to highlight the Account.
  5. Click the Add > button, and the Account will be moved to the Chosen Columns box.
  6. Click OK.

Just like qbteachmt said, we can change how the transactions are sorted out by click the column headers.

If that's not working, I'd recommend updating your QuickBooks to the latest release. Then, do the Verify and Rebuild Data process. This will get rid of any common issues on the program

Let us know how this goes so we can further assist you. Have a great day!

It looks like I have an account as OCEAN CITY ELKS  and another account as Ocean City Elks Lodge 2645.

We are only ONE ENITY and there should only be ONE ACCOUNT.

Please correct and Respond.

Duplicate Customer Account Numbers

Hello, Jim Flaig.

I hope you're doing well.

Correcting duplicate registered accounts requires us to access your account. I'd like to do it in the Community space. However, I'm unable to pull up sensitive information in a public forum.

You'll want to contact our agents, so they can remove the duplicate account. Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. On the new pop-up window, click the Contact us link.
  3. A new built-in web browser will open. Simply select a topic.
  4. Scroll down, then choose how you want to reach us.
