Re: General Ledger

Hi there, jbroth6689.

Good to see you here in the Community. I'm here to help you fix this and ensure that your General Ledger will display the right details.

After some thorough research and testing, I was unable to replicate the same result. Instead, I see all of the entries on separate lines with their respective details. That being said, it seems like your company file is affected by data integrity issues.

A quick and easy way to resolve this is to run the Verify/Rebuild process. With this, QuickBooks will be able to self-identify the cause of the issue and apply the necessary countermeasures to resolve the problem.

Let me know how it goes, I'm determined to get this fixed for you. Thanks again for dropping by, I'll be standing by for your response.

Re: General Ledger

If I may ask since you are also talking this... I am trying to collapse the detail in the GL - and it's the only report I pull that doesn't have "Expand" or "Collapse" at the top. I tried going into Customize, Filters, Detail Level and choosing Summary only, but that didn't work either.

We would like to see the report with monthly and YTD subtotals.

Any suggestions?

Re: General Ledger

Thanks for joining in the discussion @chrislovestacos. Let me help determine why you can't view the Expand/Collapse tab in the General Ledger report.

Are you using the Pro version of QuickBooks Desktop? If so, the Expand/Collapse option is only available in the Premier and Enterprise version.

In the General Ledger report, we can't customize the report to view a column for monthly and YTD subtotals. As a workaround, you can open it month by month to compare the monthly and YTD subtotals. You may create a worksheet on the Excel tab and manually add in the columns from there.

I hope this suggestion helps. If you need some related references in the future about customizing reports, you can check this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Should you need anything else, or if you have other questions about the General Ledger report, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help however I can.

Re: General Ledger

I have Desktop Pro 2018. I've been searching for the Expand/Collapse button and assumed I had messed up my settings somehow.
@LilyC  Are you saying that there is no such button in my version? If that is the case, how can I generate reports that shows the split detail? A General Ledger without split detail is one notch above worthless. Help!

Re: General Ledger

Hello, @Linda_O.

I can see where the problem is regarding the unavailability of the Expand/Collapse button, and I'm here to help get this working for you.

Instead of pulling up the General Ledger report, you can open the Transaction Detail by Account to check the affected accounts for the split transactions. Let me show you an example below.

To pull up a Transaction Detail by Account report, go to Reports menu. Choose Accountant & Taxes, then Transaction Detail by Account

This is a bit time-consuming compared to the Expand/Collapse option, but this can help as a workaround. Also, if you need other references for future use, you can visit our help site: Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have other questions about the split details. I'm here to help however I can.
