how do you find what a payment "paid" an invoice on desktop?

I'm working on books I inherited and there's a vendor with a un-applied check we sent them that isn't connected to an invoice. The invoice it matches with by amount and time period is marked "paid" but the payment isn't applied. The check payment has nothing "paid" (no invoices listed) so of course it shows as a credit on the vendor account when its not. How can I .. 1. Tell what payment "paid" the subject invoice? Its marked paid. If it was "QBO" I could just click on it. Can't find that functionality here on QBE. . 2. How can I correct the payment making a credit balance on the vendor account?

Thank you for getting back, @Dirkdaddy.

It's my pleasure to know that you're now able to figure out the issue with your invoice and the payment. If there are any duplicate payment, you can simply delete them to avoid any problem with your books.

On the other hand, with regards to the your transaction history, it's possible that it was hidden reason why you're not able to see the history at the right section of the page. In this case, you can click on arrow at the upper right part to view the history.

In addition, you may also follow these steps to view the transaction history:

  1. On the transaction's page, click on Reports.
  2. Click Transaction History.

Hello, @Dirkdaddy.

I've got a few steps that'll help locate which payment was linked to the invoice and be able to correct the payment accordingly. Let me help guide you on how.

You can open the invoice from your vendor (vendor bill) itself and locate the transaction or payment linked to it.

  1. Click on Vendors at the top menu bar.
  2. Select the vendor's name under Vendors.
  3. Locate and open the bill under Transactions.
  4. On the Bill page, click on Transaction.
  5. Go to the Related Transactions section to see the payment linked to it.
  6. Click on the Bill Pmt-Check link to open the payment.

If verified that the un-applied check is duplicate with the payment, you can simply delete it.

  1. Open the un-applied check.
  2. On the Write Checks page, click on the drop-down arrow under the Delete icon.
  3. Select Delete.

Re: how do you find what a payment "paid" an invoice on desktop?

OK After finding "transaction history" on a right click in the invoice window, I was able to see the check number that paid the invoice. It was combined with another invoice, however their was also a payment of just the amount of the invoice, and the check cleared. So, obviously I have an issue with the vendor but at least I've figured out what happened. And just for mention it was a very small amount so not a big deal but it was throwing off the books. Question - I'm using Enterprise and I don't see that grey box with Lynn Angel or the "related transactions", is that not on Enterprise?
