How to display customer's names in deposits

Hi BenTam,

Deposits are not directly linked to the customer's profile. It's why you can't see their names next to the deposits in the Transaction List by Date report. You might want to run the Deposit Detail report instead. This will show you all the details of the deposit including the customer's name.

Here's how:

  1. Click Reports located at the top.
  2. Choose Banking, and select Deposit Detail.
  3. Select the Date from the drop-down list, and find the deposit.

I've added some sample screenshots below.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know. Thanks.

Dear Sophia,

Thanks for your reply. You said,

Why other records on the report can display the customers' name?

How to display customer's names in deposits

This is terrible. People need to see these names in the General Ledger.

How to display customer's names in deposits

Hi there, @lemondoodle.

Let's get sorted out and display those names. You'll need to customize General Ledger to see the name in the deposits.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu, click Accountant & Taxes, and then select General Ledger.

  2. Choose Customize Report

  3. Select the Filters menu.

  4. In the Search Filters field, enter the Detail Level

  5. Under Detail Level, select All

  6. Click OK

Additionally, you can use the same steps if you want to see those names in the Transaction List by Date report. Then, you can memorize the report with the new settings and save it in the Memorized Report List. This way, when you want to create a similar report, you go to the Memorized Report List to find it.

This answer should point you in the right direction. Please know that I'm just a post away if you have further questions about the general ledger report. I'm always here to help.

Hi @SonjafromColeman,

You can follow the same steps provided by my colleague @MaryGraceS above.

Going into details, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Highlight Customers & Receivables, then select Transaction List by Customer.
  3. Click Customize Report.
  4. Under the Display tab, search for Name and put a check on it.
  5. Change the Sort by drop-down menu to Date.
  6. Go to the Filters tab, search for Detail Level, and choose All.
  7. (Optional) Search for TransactionType then set the drop-down menu to Deposit.

See the screenshot of the customized report below.

RE: This is terrible. People need to see these names in the General Ledger.

The 'source' line of the deposit, the line with your bank account, does not normally contain a name. Instead each of the detail lines contains a name.  Putting one of those names on the source line doesn't really make sense.

I'm sorry but this does not work. Did you test before you posted this?

Neither does having a ledger with no customer name on a deposit transaction. Do you have a solution?

If you want to see a name on the Checking row of a deposit for reports, you can go to your bank register and enter it.

We have a winner! Its an extra-step workaround but it works.

Thank you!

The only way I have found to add names to deposits, without having to

go to the register & click the dropdown with customer list; is; When you

open the Make Deposits window in the Banking tab; copy & paste the

customers name in the Memo box next to the date box & you will see it

in the register with the payment in that memo box.
