I never had to deal with instant deposit fee on previous transactions. Even as close to a week ago and all of a sudden, it's enabled on a $28,000 transaction.

Hi there, Fullconstruction1.

There can be changes in your settings, which explains why you’re now seeing instant deposit fees.

Please note that the fee for instant and scheduled deposits is 1.75% of the total amount, in addition to any regular processing fees. However, if you link your QuickBooks Debit Card, that 1.75% fee is waived entirely.

Here are things to know:

  • For instant deposits, QuickBooks initially transfers the full payment amount to your account before later deducting the fees. These show up as two separate transactions.
  • Processing fees are pulled from the bank account you’ve linked for payment processing—this can either be the account where you receive instant deposits or a different one.

If you'd like to review or update the bank account linked for instant deposits, check out the steps in the Change the bank account the instant deposit goes into section in this guide: Get Instant Deposits.

Good day, Fullconstruction1.

I appreciate you getting back to the Community regarding instant deposit settings. The option to switch off instant deposits in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is unavailable. However, you can turn off scheduling to avoid instant deposits.

Here are possible reasons why Instant Deposit became active. Instant Deposit is not enabled by default. It can be activated when you add a debit card or bank account to the Instant Deposit section, often in response to prompts from QuickBooks. Once linked, some transactions automatically qualify for Instant Deposit (for a fee), even if you did not intend to use it right away.

Here's how to change your deposit speed:

1. Click on the Gear icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.

2. Select Accounts and settings from the menu.

3. Navigate to the Payments tab.

4. Choose Deposit Speed, then click Change.

5. Uncheck all the marked days, ensuring that all days are set to off.

6. Finally, click Save schedule to apply your changes.

Please note that even with the schedule turned off, some transactions may still process as instant deposits if you manually select them during processing. To avoid this entirely, ensure no cards or bank accounts are listed in the Instant Deposit section.
