Invoicing not showing recent hours worked

Hello all,

We have an older version of QB. 2014 I think, which has been working great for us. We are a small service firm and we bill hourly and fixed fees.  Up until now, once our employees submit their time sheets, and we want to create an invoice, we'd go to the Home screen, click on Invoices/Invoice for Time & Expenses, and a screen would open that shows all our work for projects since the last time we invoiced.  No problem for the last 6 years.  Now, all of a sudden, no content shows up on this screen (no customer job, expenses, etc.).  I'm thinking some setting must have been accidentally changed.  So, now, we can't send out any invoices.  Can anyone help? It's great to see a new face here in the Community. I can see how frustrating this could be when trying to run your business. However, I'm here to help. Allow me to provide you with some information that can help resolve the issue with no content showing in the Invoice for Time & Expenses window. 

 

To give you the support you need to get this problem fixed, I recommend downloading the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Any version before 2018 we don't support. This could be one of the reasons why this glitch is occurring in your 2014 account.

 

After getting the latest version, the issue should not occur anymore. If the problem is persisting afterward, then please provide me with that information so that I can give you some further troubleshooting steps. 

 

It's my priority that you're able to create this invoice with the time and expenses included. Let me know if this helps or if we need to take further action with other steps to get this issue resolved as soon as possible. I value you and the success of your business. I'll be waiting for your response.

Have you run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility? If the same problems persists, try create a dummy file, record some data and create the invoice.

Hello Fiat Lux - ASIA,

Thanks for your suggestion.  I tried the verify and rebuild utility.  It didn't help.  I then tried your second suggestion of creating a dummy company, creating a project, and putting in some hours.  I was able to create an invoice for the dummy company.  I hoped that would have "cured" the problem with my real company, but it did not.  Still have the same problem.

 

Any other ideas?

Thanks for getting back to us, @Andy DSI.

 

As mentioned by my colleague Candice above, one of the possible reasons for this issue is the version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) that you're using.

 

We can also try repairing your QBDT as another troubleshooting step. Here's how:

 

  1. Click the Start menu on your computer.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Go to Programs and Features.
  4. Choose QuickBooks, then tick Uninstall/Change.
  5. Pick Continue, then Next.
  6. Hit Repair, then Next again.

 

If the issue persists, I highly suggest downloading the latest version of QBDT. Once installed, consider checking out this article for further guidance on how to open your company file in the new one: Upgrade your company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

 

Once done, try creating a test invoice to double-check.
