I am a new user of Quickbooks on line (within the last 2 weeks).
I went to great lengths to create my customized invoice in order to present a 'corporate image' to my clients, and was happy with the way Quickbooks was sending out my emails (see below)
This provided a nice simple 'view invoice' button which the client pressed and it took them to our corporate invoice.
Now the 'better, improved' option ( see below)
Gives a misleading 'Review and Pay' option, which might put some clients off following through as they may think it is going to force them to make an immediate payment.
Why has this change been made?
Please revert back to the original - it was clearer, and gave a priority to the corporate identity of Quickbooks customers, rather than Quickbooks themselves.
Corporate identity is fundamental when communicating with clients, and remember these emails are being used to communicate to OUR clients not the clients of Quickbooks.
I believe the proper fix would be:
Account and Settings
/Online Invoice selected
/allow us to show sales form summary in email, rather than details
Dear Quickbooks, we are not talking about the invoices themselves. We are not talking about customizing the invoices. We are talking about the body of the email in which it now shows all the details of the invoice.
Unfortunately, QB has forced us to include all invoice details in the body of the email. This is unprofessional and sloppy. There are many of us who have complained about it, and I have not seen a solution yet.
Wow. MorganB apparently hasn't read any of the feedback messages. The issue is that the body of the emails now contain all the invoice details, and this is an absolutely horrible. All of our customers hate it. We hate it. It is unprofessional. It is sloppy.
MorganB, please read the thread and respond to it rather than redirecting your response about things that are "optimized for iPhone, Gmail....." Our issue has nothing to do with how things are optimized on different platforms. We are furious that our email invoices now contain ALL INVOICE DETAILS IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL!
Every month when I have to send my invoices, I get reminded of this fiasco, and it stokes the fire of fury all over again.
Is Intuit ignoring us -- the paying customers for their QuickBooks Online product, the ones who are the providers of the 3% commissions for their credit card processing -- hoping we'll just give up and go away?
I can tell you this, I'm going on 2 MONTHS FURIOUS over this change to the invoice EMAIL layout change. Again, it's about the invoice EMAIL LAYOUT, not the actual invoice itself. The online invoice, the PDF attachment invoice, are all fine. Don't you dare change those.
Considering that QuickBooks earns it's income, it's corporate existence from us, you would think they would bend-over-backwards for us to address our concerns about what we know what's *best* for our customers and businesses and what provides income for Intuit.
So, going on 2 months FURIOUS over this ill-conceived bad idea of an invoice email layout change, let me reiterate again --
A) Change it back to the old former, clear, beautiful, concise, efficient invoice email layout, or
B) Give us the option to choose to use the horrible, failed, ugly new invoice email layout or use the former beautiful invoice email layout, or
C) (worst option) give us the option to disable or not show invoice details and other invoice elements (Does the customer really need to know their own address in the email? Seriously? Is your development team that dumb?) in the horrible, failed, ugly new invoice email layout.
Do something to fix this.
We are your customers.
We are paying you.
Our customers from our business are paying you.
Listen to us.
You had something that was perfectly fine and beautiful. Go back to it.

Different designs for an invoice summary email template are currently in action. Simplifying the template is the main goal. Any and all feedback for the initial beta is greatly appreciated. To submit your ideas, comments, and concerns, please follow the steps below.

Thanks for your response. I hope the fix happens soon. Please respond with a timeline for a solution. In my mind, this shouldn't take long at all, seeing as how the emails were acceptable just a couple of months ago.
Also, I will email [email address removed] as you suggest. But, and please respond to me here, the issue has nothing to do with "Custom Form Styles." The issue is in the body of the emails.

We are continuously looking for ways to improve our product and your feedback is extremely valuable. Thank you for leaving feedback regarding the invoice email template. After launching the redesigned invoice email containing invoice details, we heard all the concerns raised and began working through designs of an invoice summary version. The invoice summary is a more simplified invoice template.
In the fourth week of June the new invoice summary version will be available. I will return to this blog to post an update once it is live.

Why in the world will it take until the 4th week of June? Everyone has expressed to you repeatedly how terrible this is and that they want the original email style back. Each person has said the same thing. Why would it ever need to be changed? It is completely unprofessional. Developers should justify their existence by fixing what is broke, not fixing what isn't.
The email for sending customers invoices is terrible!! It changed without notice in early April for me and it is an embarrassment. It is very unprofessional and confusing. Please offer the option to send customer invoices with just the summary we previously had and the invoice attached via PDF. I understand that the invoice PDF is still attached, but the presentation of the email is very bad. I do not want the invoice details listed in the email. Also, the logos look terrible too!! They are blurry and stretched. My clients are complaining. This is being reflected badly on me as I recommended QBO to my clients! These issues need to be resolved immediately. It is unacceptable that QB changes how we present our businesses to our clients without any notification or anyway to opt out.
When is this issue going go to be resolved? I am very busy doing the work of my business, as are my clients, and we do not have time to mess around with lengthy phone calls to QB that get us no where, nor do we have time for Beta testing. Simply gives us the option to send our invoices in the same format that was a previously available!
I'm with you. After writing several scathing comments, speaking with QBO support at length, and reading the several-hundred unhappy reviews, I have been told that QBO will be releasing an update in the 4th week of June to address our concerns. Reportedly, the update will include a "summary only" option for invoice emails. I know this doesn't provide much consolation but thought you should know.
Make sure to email [email address removed] and include your company name(s) and ID numbers, and ask to be included in the release of the update.
That's all I've got for now.
Another example of how confusing this new email layout is.
I have now had calls from two customers asking me to email them a paper copy of the invoice as they do not realise that the button 'Review and Pay' will actually take them to an online version of the email which they can download.
PLEASE CHANGE THE BUTTON TO SAY SOMETHING LIKE 'View Invoice'.
Also, it has become apparent that customers are not pressing the 'Review and Pay' button when they receive the email, and this means you do not get any tracking information about them having viewed the invoice.
PLEASE ACTION THIS URGENTLY.
You said you would provide a solution to this issue by the 4th week in June. I see that there have been no changes. Please update us.
I'm glad that you listened to us, your customers, about the horrendous re-design of the email invoice layout which had the line-item details in the email, and your equally ill-conceived and business relationship damaging brute-force deployment of the unwanted horrendous re-design.
I'm glad that we have a "summary" invoice email layout again (instead of the useless and confusing detail invoice email), but I still don't think the new design is an improvement over the previous original simple email layout. The original simple invoice email layout was still the best.
I'm glad you listened 90% but it would have been better if you reverted back to the original simple email layout, which is what we asked for.
While I'm glad we have a simpler invoice email summary, I'm not thankful at all for the unnecessary hot mess that you made and then had to find a way to fix. And I have no thanks for fixing something that you broke to begin with.
Now that you've made the effort to correct your mistake, QuickBooks should start to think how to make-right the last 3 months of unnecessary damage and suffering you put us, our businesses, and our customers through. To be honest, I don't see why I was charged QBO fees for the last 3 months during this fiasco.

You nailed it, Scott. Intuit is like the airlines. They have no regard for their customers, but we are stuck with them because we don't have any other good alternatives.
By the way, despite the partial correction of Intuit's arrogant error, I think I will probably continue to use the workaround I devised, which is to email the invoice to only myself first, clean it up to get rid of the amateurish QBO formatting, and re-send it to my client. It's a little more work, but I end up with a more professional invoice -- with the delightful added bonus is that I have the satisfaction of deleting the "Powered by QuickBooks" propaganda and the QB logo from the email (something else that shouldn't be there in the first place for a PAID app.) Small victories!

I think you are aware based on the comments you have received that most of us still do not like the email. It is still ugly and requires scrolling. I would much prefer an extremely simple email (the old one was just fine!) – NO detail except the amount due (and that should be optional). I should be able to send it with either:
1 – an attached PDF, or
2 – a link to the online invoice that looks just like the PDF but adds a PAY NOW button.
Dats it. K.I.S.S!!!
Same goes for estimates, statements etc.
Please save the fancy formatting and features for the invoice themselves – how about offering more flexibility there instead??? It's pretty lame that in order to get a plain paper invoice on letterhead one has to manually design it and import it from word…..

I have just returned from holiday and read all the messages, but I still see no difference in the layout of the covering email when sending out my 'Corporate Invoice'.
The email still contains the details of the invoice and a 'Review and Pay' link button?
Why can't Intuit please go back to the original format of the invoice with a 'Vue and Download' link button?

Allow me to share some information about the changing the invoice format your client received.
Currently, QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn't have the option to change the Review and Pay option to View and Download when sending invoices to your clients. For now, I would appreciate if you could send this as a feature request to our engineers, this will help us make the request for the feature to be included in future updates.

Ok, WTF Intuit. My invoices had switched back to the original format awhile ago, so I was extremely pleased. I was still monitoring the discussion, but not participating because, for me at least, the problem was solved. Now, I send an invoice out this morning and it's changed to the crappy new format again. Have you all not been listening to all of us at all? Was the response at corporate headquarters, "Well thank you very much for all your feedback. Now we're going to completely disregard everything all of you have said and make whatever changes we feel like because we have all the control."?
Change my invoice emails back to the way they were immediately. This is a ridiculous discussion to be having and should not even be an issue. You have made it an issue by not listening to your CLIENTS and doing whatever you want.If I do that with my CLIENTS, I lose my CLIENTS and am soon out of work.
I have all but given up with getting a response from Intuit about this issue, so I have started using the following work around. It creates a little bit of extra work for me but until Intuit sort this mess out, I think it is a better alternative.
I have created a Template Email with a 'Button' (see below). When I create an invoice using Quickbooks, rather than click 'save and send' I choose 'save and share link'. This then brings up a screen with the URL link to the invoice. I then open my template email, right click the 'button' and paste the link into the properties. When my clients get my email, they click the 'button' and this takes them to the online version of my Custom Invoice, which they can then print/download.
As I say this may be a step backwards, but from a professional corporate image point of view, I think it is much better than the messy, misleading, email that Quickbooks generates and issues.

When one of my clients (top 5 largest healthcare system in the US.) receive our emailed invoices the right third of the email is invisible to them. That part of the email is the part that has the invoice amounts etc......

I can help fix the invoice that the client is not ale to view entirely.
If you can view the invoice on your end, but the client is not able to do so, it could be their Adobe Reader version is outdated. To isolate this, you can go ahead and provide this article to your client for the troubleshooting steps on how to update Adobe Reader: Updating, repairing or reinstalling Adobe Reader.
If the same issue persists after updating the reader, they'll need to repair it. You can email this article to your client.
