Join nowI have a client who has created the same credit card account twice. I'm sure it was not intentional but I need to merge the two accounts. Are there any issues with doing this?
The alternate is to manually move each entry and there are about 2 years of entries.
Thanks
EJ

Let me help you merge the credit card accounts, EJ.
When you merge the accounts, the transactions will be transferred. However, the reconciled ones will not be reconciled after they merged into the other account.
You can follow these steps to merge the account:
Type the name of the account that you are merging this account into the Account Name field.
Click Save & Close, then select Yes to confirm the merge.
I'll also include this article to better guide you: Merge list entries in QuickBooks Desktop.
If there's anything else that you need, don't hesitate to let us know. We'll be right here to help you. Take care!

I don't get asked to merge the accounts. It just sets up 2 accounts. How do I fix?
Good morning, joannfavia1.
Just to make sure I can give you the best info, are you using QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop?
I'll keep an eye out for your reply and will be here to help merge your accounts.
Hi Kristine,
I am having the same issue and want to confirm one thing - you said "the reconciled ones will not be reconciled after they merged into the other account". Does this mean we have to re-reconcile the old transactions (of which there are thousands)?
Thanks,
Scott
I have the same issue, but one of the credit card accounts is linked to the account the other is manual entries. Can I still merge the two accounts?
These instructions are not working for me in Quickbooks online. I get this message: "Another account is already using this name. Please use a different name."
I had 3 years of transactions on my American Express Credit Card Account but it was not automatically downloading transactions. When I tried to re-link the account, I must have accidentally created a new one. I tried to follow the merge instructions by deactivating the older one (this is the one where the online automatic download was not working) but it did not work. The old account is fully reconciled. What can i do so that all transactions are in the same account?
