QB Runs Slow While Posting Payments

Using Enterprise 19, QB payments take a long time to save.  After choosing the invoice that was paid, clicking save, it takes at least 2-3 minutes for it to save.  This is truly frustrating when applying hundreds of payments.  PLEASE HELP!  I might also add, that QB is running on a server.

QB Runs Slow While Posting Payments

It’s nice to see here in the Community, @joliver.

I have steps to speed up QuickBooks performance when processing payments.

There is a certain network setup that can improve the performance and prevent any delays in response time when posting payments in QuickBooks Desktop. Make sure to meet the following requirements:

  • You must have 4GB system memory (RAM) on your computer server.
  • Use Windows or Linux-based server computer not a Network Attached Storage Device (NAS Drive).
  • Make sure to use a hardwired network (not wireless).
  • Lastly, you must have Gigabit network cards, Gigabit-capable router or switch, and Cat6 networking cables.

A large file can also be the reason QuickBooks is slow to respond. You need to reduce the size to resolve the issue by running the Condense Data Utility Tool or starting a new company file. I usually recommend the latter instead of performing the condense process because it's most likely to resolve the latency of the program and the tool can cause other issues in your file.

Here’s an article for more details and other troubleshooting solutions: Resolve QuickBooks Desktop performance issues: Manage your data file.

However, if the delay is only happening when processing payments, make sure you’re using Internet Explorer (IE) as your default browser.

Let me show you how:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to Tools or the Gear icon and click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Programs tab.
  4. Under the Default Web Browser, select the Make Default button.
  5. Hit OK.

Right after, determine if the latency is caused by the stored temp files by clearing cache and cookies. If you continue to get the same result, click on this link and follow the detailed steps outlined in the article: Resolve issues with QuickBooks Payments services using Internet Explorer.

This information should get you back up and running in no time. Let me know if this works out for you, I’m more than happy to help. Take care and have a great day!

QB Runs Slow While Posting Payments

Thank you for your suggestions.  We run QB 19 from our local internal server.  We access QB 19 through the QB 19 multi-user software.   We do not access it from the browser.  Is there anything else we could do to speed up check processing?

Can you tell me why we have some checks that process very quickly and some that can take up to 5+ minutes?  What in the QB 19 software could cause that?

Would it help to condense?  Would it break anything?

I appreciate your patience and assistance with this urgent matter.

QB Runs Slow While Posting Payments

Hello there, joliver.

Thanks for the prompt response and for providing additional details of your concern. I want to make sure this is taken care of.

How you access your company file may also cause the performance of your QuickBooks, specially if your network is not capable of handling large data files. This is probably why there are some checks that are process quickly than the others. The troubleshooting steps shared by my colleague KimG will help speed up your QuickBooks performance.

If you don't want to start a new company file as suggested, you have the option to use the Condense Data Utility Tool instead. This helps streamline your company data file and this tool is recommended to improve QuickBooks performance.

Keep me posted on how it goes. I'm still here whenever you need help while working with QuickBooks.

QB Runs Slow While Posting Payments

Hello,

Did any of the recommended solutions speed of the payment processing?

We are running QB desktop enterprise 2023 and have been seeing the same problems.  Even when you take a cash payment it takes 2-3 minutes to save.  We do have 5 users but it never affects the user that has the QB file stored on their local machine.

Thanks for joining the Community, WVMLS.

In addition to the troubleshooting steps shared by KhimG and Charies_M, you can also turn off automatic pop-ups to increase performance. If you're using Multi-user mode, make sure to switch to Single-user mode by going to File, then selecting Switch to Single-user Mode/Switch to Multi-user Mode.

Here's how to turn off automatic pop-ups for sales and customers:

  1. Sign in to your company file as its admin.
  2. In the top menu bar, go to Edit, then Preferences.
  3. Access your Sales & Customers section and open its Company Preferences tab.
  4. Uncheck the Warn about duplicate invoice numbers and Warn about duplicate Sales Order numbers options, then select OK.

Here's how to turn off automatic pop-ups for items and inventory preferences:

  1. While signed in as an admin, go to Edit, then Preferences.
  2. Access your Items and inventory area, then open its Company Preferences tab.
  3. Uncheck Warn about duplicate purchase order numbers.
  4. Select OK.

You can also find detailed steps for turning off pop-ups for bill preferences, search, desktop view, reminders, reports/graphs, and automatic updates in our Manage your data files to fix QuickBooks performance issues article.

The article mentioned above additionally goes over how to reduce the size of company files. This may be a good option to try, since QuickBooks' performance decreases as the size of a company file increases. The article also details other ways to improve QuickBooks performance.

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any questions. Have an awesome Tuesday!
