ACH Bill Pay with Quickbooks Desktop

I have a client who uses QuickBooks Premier - Accountants Edition - Desktop.

With the latest Postage increase, they want to know if they can initiate payments via ACH using QuickBooks Desktop.

Can we do that?

Yes, you can receive customer payments via ACH in QB desktop through the GoPayments but even thouhg receiving an ACH in QBO (online) is free, QB charges $1 for doing the same in desktop.

I would suggest two things, one that you might save your customers 55 cents but it will cost you $1, and 2. avoid the next day ACH like the plague. Their 1% fee for what the banking industry has all agreed is free is outrageous and borders on criminal

If you are talking about outgoing ACH bill.com which will integrate with QB costs 49 cents per ACH plus 95 cents per day after free trial.

Your own bank may offer free or lower priced outgoing ACH

Thank you!

You confirmed what I suspected.

I was talking about the Outgoing ACH.

If you have an ACH account with your bank and want to create payment data in the standard NACHA file format, you can use third party solutions listed in Intuit App Center - https://apps.intuit.com/app/apps/appdetails?shortName=app-b7rhf97pmg&locale=en-US.

Our bank offers ACH directly fro within our bank login. We do pay about $45/month whether we use it or not but no fee for individual ACH and no fee if they come back NSF. We do get about 1 every third month that bounces back

I have a similar question.  We use QB Pro Desktop but do not use the QB payroll due to the complexity of the states in which we operate.  However, we have significantly large payments going to vendors that we would like to make through QB direct deposit that our bank cannot accommodate due to threshold limits.  The link you posted to the Standard Pricing Schedule does not have a "sign up" link to it.  Can you tell me if:  a.  this link is applicable to what I described, and b.  if it is, where/how do we sign up?

Or, if there are other options?

Thank you.

Hello teeemdee,

Welcome to the Community. It would be my pleasure to help provide some information about paying vendors in QuickBooks Desktop.

For you to pay the vendors using the Direct Deposit feature, you may need to sign up for a Payroll and Direct Deposit service. Using Online Bill Pay only allows you to pay bills through Online Bank Payment.

For additional insight into the direct deposit for vendors, and how you can sign up for the services, I'm adding the articles that I recommend:

In case you want to know more about the Bill Pay feature as well, please check this out:

Set up and use QuickBooks Bill Pay.

Thanks for coming to the Community. If ever you have additional questions regarding paying the vendors, I'll keep an eye out for your response.

Thank you, .  I guess I was looking for ways to pay Vendors, not independent contractors, electronically.  Bill Pay doesn't do anything more than a bank does with their bill pay.

It looks like the Direct Deposit is only for either employees or independent contractors and not other businesses?  I'm looking for a B2B solution.

I just signed up for bill.com, but honestly, it's not what I want.  I'm looking for more of an integrated solution in the QB platform...not something that I have to go outside of it to use.  Hope that makes sense.

Hello again, teeemdee.

I appreciate you for getting back to me. Allow me to help provide additional clarfication with your concern about paying vendors in QuickBooks Desktop.

Yes, you're correct. For now, the QuickBooks Direct Deposit feature is available for employees and independent contractors only. For paying vendors online, the only option available within the program is Online Bank Payment.

I recommend the following article for further guidance on paying bills in QuickBooks Desktop:

Pay bills in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'll take note of your request regarding the flexibility of paying vendors through our product. For now, please make sure you have the latest release to ensure any new features released will be available on your end.

In case you need the steps, I'm adding the article below for your reference:

Update to the latest release of QuickBooks Desktop.

Please keep in touch with me here should you need any further questions or concerns. The Community always has your back.

Hi teeemdee - I've also been researching better ways to pay our vendor invoices.  When you think of all the wasteful steps of cutting paper checks, I know there has to be a better solution as our volume has increased.  I'm currently using QB Online Bill Pay but unlike what they sell it as, it's simply paper checks going out to your vendors via QB Billpay, not true ACH.  And the time it takes for those checks to arrive (usually 5-8 business days) is not acceptable for us.

I've just read about a QB integrated program/app called ACH Universal by a company called treasurysoftware.com.  Check out this link -

https://desktop.apps.com/apps/136200/ach-universal-to-create-ach-files-in-nacha-formats#!overview

Our bank has agreed to enable ACH payments from our business accounts for free (LOVE our bank so much - Synovus) but I'm not interested in having to enter it on the bank site and then manually send out email notifications to our vendors with remittance details.  This goes back to the time consuming inefficiency of paper checks in my opinion.  I've scheduled a demo with ACH Universal so I'm navigating it myself right now.  As I can tell from that link, they claim that you select what you wish to pay from within QB - the software then sends a file to your bank that gives ACH details (who and how much, I'm assuming) and also emails the vendor to let them know exactly what is being paid with that amount.  If we just send an arbitrary check amount to our vendors with no invoice detail, we'd gain nothing in terms of efficiency.  In most cases, we're paying more than one invoice and quite frequently, more than 20 invoices on once check.

I hope this helps - in my research on this topic, I came across your thread and wanted to share this info in case it may help you.  Good luck!

Use our BRC Direct Deposit File Creator  to create vendor DD payments based on your bill payments or standard checks (or paychecks for employees.)

Hello, I've been looking for this exact capability also.  Did ACH Universal work for you?

Thank you!

Hi Heather - Yes, it's working great and interacts very well with QB and our bank's ACH processing.  The support I've gotten from Treasury Software, the company that owns ACH Universal, has been awesome.  My point of contact is John Lehrman - his contact info is below.  They will walk you through getting everything set up and he answers questions very quickly when I initially had them.
