To transfer your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2013 file to the 2020 version, all you need to do is to open it in your newer version. Before we proceed with the steps, move your company files to your computer's local hard drive first.

Once done, here's how to do it:

1. Ensure all users are logged out of your company file, then open the new version.
2. Go to the File menu to get to the Open or Restore Company. 
3. Click Restore a backup copy, then tick Local backup. 
4. Locate the file and select it to Open. 
5. Sign in as an admin user.
6. Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
7. Choose Update Now to start the upgrade.
8. Hit Done to complete.
