removing a client

Hi, theres a client in my list of clients that I have messed up on and it constantly shows me a payment/deposit of $25.00 for him each time I go to BANKING > MAKE DEPOSITS.   I dont know where the mistake was made but hes not been a client for AGES and I just want to DELETE or HIDE him but even when I do that, every time I go to make a deposit it still shows up.  How do I wipe this account clean and/or DELETE or whatever I need to do to just get him off my screen in all areas? Thanks!

Re: removing a client

Welcome aboard to QuickBooks Community, nexgraphics.

Deleting or hiding a client doesn't delete transactions. It will make the client status to be inactive since QuickBooks cannot delete it because it is used in at least one transaction. To delete the deposit, you'll need to open up the transaction. From there, you'd able to remove it.

To do these task, check below steps:

  1. Click Lists at the top menu bar.
  2. Pick Chart of Accounts.
  3. Double-click the account and deposit.
  4. Select Delete button.
  5. Chose Yes.

For further details about deposits, you can read this article: Deposit customer payments.

Re: removing a client

Thank you but Im LOST, I got to the chart of accounts, then click on"WHAT"?  You wrote THE ACCOUNT.  The account is a client name, there are no client names on this list

Re: removing a client

Glad to join the thread and help guide you today so you'll be able to delete the deposit successfully, @nexgraphics.

My colleague MirriamM is referring to the account where you've recorded the deposit. An example is if you've deposited the amount to BankAccount1, then you can locate the deposit to that bank account under the Chart of Accounts.

I've added these screenshots for additional reference.

On the other hand, if you're referring to the customer's payment/s that showing up under the Payments to Deposit page, you can locate delete the payment transaction itself. Here's how:

  1. Click on Customers at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Customer Center.
  3. Under Customers & Jobs.
  4. Pick All Customers under the drop-down arrow to show the inactive customers.
  5. Choose the customer's name, then go to the Transactions section.
  6. Look for the payment and open it.
  7. Click on the X or Delete icon if you wish to delete the payment.
  8. Click OK.
