Setting up payroll tax liabilities

Hi there, @nelsonchas.

It's nice to see your post in the Community. I'd be happy to help you set up payroll tax liabilities.

Did you just switch to QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2019 from an older version? If so, you don't need to set up the E-pay feature again to electronically pay your taxes in QuickBooks.

To E-pay your tax liability payments, we need to try some basic troubleshooting steps to get this resolved. To begin, let's make sure your payroll tax table is updated to the latest release.

Here's how:

  1. From the Employees menu, select Get Payroll Updates
  2. Select Download entire payroll update.
  3. Click the Update button.
  4. Click OK to confirm.

After that, let's make sure the payment method and payment frequency are correct in the QuickBooks Payroll Setup window.

Here's how:

  1. From the Employees menu, select Payroll Center
  2. In the Payroll Center, select the Pay Liabilities tab.
  3. From the Other Activities list at the bottom, click Change Payment Method.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Select a scheduled tax payment (Example: Federal 940 or Federal 941/944) and click Edit.
  6. In the Payment (deposit) method options, select E-pay.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Make sure also the bank account selected and the information is correct.
  9. At the lower left of the QuickBooks Payroll Setup window, click Finish Later.

Once done, please try again to E-pay your payroll liabilities.

Also, I've included some articles about this for more details as well as screenshots for some steps:

For additional help, I recommend reaching out to our Payroll Support. They have tools like screen sharing to help you get to a resolution in no time.
