Sort Invoices by Invoice #

Thanks for your swift response and for sharing your screenshot, @boss429. I'm here to help ensure your invoices get sorted.

By default, QuickBooks will follow the number sequence that you've set on your first invoice.

As a workaround, you can start your own sequence by creating a new invoice and set the number to the desired next number.

Before doing so, let's customize the template to ensure you can enter an invoice number. I'll show you how:

  1. From the Lists menu, select Templates.
  2. Double-click the invoice template.
  3. Select the Additional Customization button.
  4. Under the Header tab, tick Invoice Number. Make sure to select the Screen and Print column.
  5. Click OK, and then OK.

Then, proceed to create an invoice. Let's say your starting number is 100. Before saving it, go to the invoice number box and erase what is there and enter what you want it to be. The system will take it from there after you save it.

I've got you an article for future reference. Check out this link: Record An Invoice Payment. It will guide you on how to receive invoice payments on QuickBooks Desktop.

Sort Invoices by Invoice #

It's a pleasure to have you here, @boss429.

When applying for customer payments, invoices are already sorted by number in ascending order.

I can see the importance of sorting the invoice number either by ascending or descending order. Rest assured that our product developers are constantly working to make QuickBooks better for our customers.

In the meantime, I recommend visiting our page to learn the new updates that are being rolled out: The QuickBooks Blog

Also, here's how you can record invoice payments on QuickBooks Desktop. After, deposits your customer's payment.

Please get back in here if you have further concerns with QuickBooks. I'll be more than happy to help. Have a blissful day.

See attached snapshot.  Invoices are not sorted by invoice number and I can't figure out how to make it sort.
