Swiping credit cards

I have ordered both a Quickbooks USB credit card reader and a Magtek reader but I cannot swipe credit cards with either one. When I choose to accept payment and click the Swipe Credit Card button it says Swipe Now but it never picks up the credit card when I swipe it. The mag strip is facing the green light and the device is plugged in properly. I have to key in the credit card number because I cannot get either device to work. Any ideas? I use Quickbooks Online.

•    Test the card reader connection
•    Ensure you’re using a compatible card reader
•    Use a direct USB connection
•    Swipe the card correctly
•    Check the card’s magnetic stripe
•    Check the card reader
•    Try a different card or computer
•    Switch from HID to keyboard mode.

Swiping credit cards

I still cannot get the cards to swipe. I have sort of given up and hand key all credit cards but it is a huge hassle. I may need to look to a different credit card processor as it should not be this hard to use a credit card machine.
