View what customer has paid for an item in the past

QB Desktop Enterprise - my sales guys will be on the phone with a customer, writing up a sales order. They need to be able to quickly see how much a customer has paid for an item in the past.  Is there any easy way to do this?

Thanks for sharing your QuickBooks Desktop version, cjc357.

Your employees can run the Sales by Item Summary report and sort it to show the customers as columns.

This report summarizes your unit and dollar sales, subtotaled by the types of items you sell. It shows sales for the current month for each customer, but you can change the period of time by choosing a different date range.

I'll show you how:

  1. Go to Reports at the top menu bar.
  2. From the Sales drop-down, select Sales by Item Summary report.
  3. Set the period from the Dates drop-down list at the top.
  4. Hit the drop-down arrow beside Show columns and choose Customer:Job.
  5. Tick the Refresh button.

You'll see the customer's previous payments of each item under the Amount column of the report.

Thank you for the reply.  The report closes on me because its to big when I change the drop down.. I try to filter by preferred vendor first then do that but it still closes.  That really doesnt work well for me as we need to do it more quickly.  We will keep looking for something else thnk you
