Where did the 'make payment' button go?

On quickbooks online, I am recording a vendor payment, with a vendor credit included. To do this I clicked new, bill pay, then the vendor I'm recording payment for. Usually in the upper right corner there is a button that says 'make payment'. But now I'm seeing two different buttons. 'schedule online payment' and 'mark as paid'. Where did the 'make payment' option go?

I’ll be sharing information about the missing option from the bill pay feature.


The option “make payment” in QuickBooks Online was changed a few months ago to Schedule Online Payment. You can select the option mark as paid when making a bill payment.


I’m attaching an article for future reference about applying multiple bills and multiple vendors at the same time in QBO: Enter and pay bills.

I appreciate the screenshot you've provided, @pigeon.

 

You may have enabled your Online Bill Pay feature. You can turn this off by canceling it in your account settings.

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose Account and Settings.
  3. Select the Bill Pay menu.
  4. Click the Cancel subscription link.
  5. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the process.

On the other hand, if you don't want to cancel the online bill pay feature, here's how you can manually pay the bill:

  1. Go to the Expenses menu.
  2. Select the Expenses tab.
  3. Locate the Bill transaction you want to pay.
  4. From the Action column, click the drop-down.
  5. Choose Make Payment.
  6. Enter the payment details to complete the process. 2002.GIF

Where did the 'make payment' button go?

Thank you for the reply! I don't want to cancel the online bill pay feature, so tried to manually pay the bill. I went to the Expenses menu, selected the Expenses tab, and located the Bill transaction I want to pay, but I do not see the Make Payment option. Attached is the drop-down I see when I try and pay the bill for 200.39.

Thanks for the reference article! I followed the section 'Pay your bills through Pay bills' and it worked perfectly.

I am having this same problem.  I do not pay bills online. I print checks. This option to schedule a payment is just another step and if you are not careful will take you to a bill payment app screen.  If I wanted online payment capability I would have asked for it.  When I notified QB agents about this update, they were not aware of this change and had to research to figure out what what I was talking about. I talked to 3 agents to resolve this issue, and they only showed me how to work around this and then pay by check.  I had a problem of after I paid by check, my bill payment did not link back to my vendor's transactions, so when looking at my vendors's account, all I saw was a bill with no payment recorded. I want schedule payment off my screen and bring back my "make payment " button link to print check, back. I should not have to make another step and "Mark Paid".   Surely this is not to much to ask for?

I appreciate the detailed information you give. Let me provide additional information with the Make Payment option. The Schedule payment is on the Expense tab. However, if you want the Make payment option,  you can go to the vendor itself and check the transaction list where Make payment is available.

 

Let me guide you in going to Make payment option:

  1. On the left navigation pane, go to the Expenses tab then select Vendors.
  2. Look for your vendor then click the vendor's name.
  3. It will take you to the Vendor transaction list where you can choose Make payment .

With Respect, Joseph_A   ...     the make payment option is NOT available....

Nada.. zip... nothing....


ONLY SCHEDULE PAYMENT on THE VENDOR's page is there....

This is not the way to keep customers.

 

NOt happy. Will not recommend QBO
