Filing Form W-2 with Assisted Payroll

Learn about your W-2 and W-3s in Assisted Payroll. How W-2s are accessed, how Intuit processes them, and what you need to know to stay compliant.

With Assisted Payroll, we’ll file W-2s and W-3s automatically and keep your business in compliance with US tax laws. We also mail out your employee copies by January 31st, unless you choose to Self Print the official copies.

General info about W-2s and W-3s

A W-2, also called the Wage and Tax Statement, is the document an employer is required to send to each of their employees and the SSA at the end of each year. The W-2 reports an employees’ annual wages and tax amounts withheld from their paychecks. In assisted payroll, we handle your W-2 filing on both state and federal levels to keep you in tax compliance.

Access, printing, and delivery of W-2s

Whether you need to see your W-2s, set-up their delivery options, or print back-up copies, we’ll show you how. You have a few different options based on the time of year.

Note: Previews are only available for quarters 1-3

Previewing your W-2 before the year is finished is a good practice to ensure that your W-2s are accurate and reliable.

You have two options for how to send out your W-2s assisted payroll:

Decide on your printing option before December 31st.

To change these settings, look at changing your W-2 delivery option in Assisted Payroll. If you choose the self print delivery option, you need to print and distribute your own official W-2s by January 31st.

Regardless of which option you select, Assisted Payroll still files both W-2s and the W-3 with all required federal and state agencies for you.

Note: W-2s will be available in the Payroll Tax Center on January 10th.

Note: Remember that the official W-2, printed on W-2 paper must be delivered to your employee by January 31st. Assisted Payroll will mail these to your employees automatically, unless you chose the Self Print delivery option.

Need to correct or amend a W-2?

Corrections to your W-2 are different based on if the error is caught before hand or after the fact. Most after the fact changes to the W-2 require an amended version be re-filed, this is called a W-2C. No matter the situation, this is something we’re here to help you with. Corrections to W-2s before December 27 can help you avoid backdating fees.

Need a copy of a previous amendment?

If you are searching for a copy of an amendment, note that these are not available in the Payroll Tax Center. You will have received a physical copy of the return. If you need a copy of the amendment, fill out a request form and fax it to the number on the form.
