Transfer a sales receipt to a different customer in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale

Learn how to change the name of the customer on the receipt instead of reversing the transaction.

Important:
  • Customer tracking should be on.To turn customer tracking on:
    1. From the File menu, go to Preferences then Company.
    2. On left pane, click General.
    3. Under Select features to use, put a check on I want to track customers.
    4. Click Save.
  • You CAN’T change the Customer Name, nor add/edit Promo Codes/Notes in a Sales Receipt if it’s already been transferred to QuickBooks Desktop after Financial Exchange.

Change Customer Name on a Sales Receipt:

  1.  From the Point of Sale menu, choose Sales History.
  2. Look for the Sales Receipt and highlight it.
  3. Click the I Want to… drop-down, then select Change/Edit Customer.
  4. Choose the correct customer.
  5. Click OK.Note: This is also applicable with Return Receipts.

Add/edit Promo Codes or Notes from saved receipts:

  1. From the Point of Sale menu, choose Sales History.
  2. Look for the Sales Receipt and highlight it.
  3. Click the I Want to… drop-down, then select Add/Edit Promo Code/Notes.
  4. Enter the Promo Code and additional notes if necessary
  5. Click OK.

Can I change other information in a saved Sales Receipt?

No. Only Customer Name and Promo Codes and notes can be changed.
