Windows access rights

Admin privileges allow you to install and remove programs, change computer configurations, and access all programs and files on the computer. If you're a user in a corporate environment, admin privileges may be restricted and you may not be allowed to install ActiveX controls.

To find out if you have admin privileges on your computer, check for Windows admin rights.

If you don't have admin access rights:

  • Ask your system admin to log in to your computer with admin user rights.
  • Have your admin sign in to QuickBooks Online, then install ActiveX control.

If you still can't load ActiveX control, check the settings on your Internet Explorer. It may have been set up not to restrict downloads on the computer.

Manually install ActiveX control

Important: If you use the ActiveX installation tool, it should be your last resort. Once used, you need to use it each time to update our ActiveX control.

If you get a message saying that you have a newer version of ActiveX, you need to uninstall older version before you can use the ActiveX Installer Tool. The tool is listed as QuickBooks Online Edition Utilities vXX.
