Recent changes, improvements, and fixes in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 2013

The following changes and improvements were made to QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop 2013. Later releases (ones with higher numbers) include all changes in earlier releases.

Unless otherwise noted, these changes apply to all editions of Point of Sale -- Point of Sale Basic, Point of Sale Pro and Point of Sale Multi-Store.

Release 16 (R16)

  • This update includes important security fixes.

Release 15 (R15)

  • If the user credentials for payments have expired, the login page will be shown to users. You will be prompted to verify your credentials again once this happens. The User ID field on the payments login page will be disabled. If the User ID needs to be changed, Point of Sale will provide messaging with instructions on how to do so.
  • You will no longer be prompted to sign into your payments account when switching between multiple company files.
  • Point of Sale now has additional security around CVV (Card Verification Value) validation.

Release 14 (R14)

  • Point of Sale will no longer time out after four or more hours of inactivity
  • An incorrect authorization code of "**" will no longer be returned when attempting to authorize a credit card. Authorization codes will now only be returned as a series of numbers to ensure the transaction was successfully authorized.
Sales, Purchasing and Items
  • The Item Description for Customer Orders will not longer truncate after saving the order and reopening at a later time.

Release 13 (R13)

  • Updated sign up/sign in flows at all points where an Intuit service is accessed.
  • Voice Authorization numbers have been updated to reflect the change to Chase Paymentech
  • The error 'Object Refrence Not Set To An Instance Of An Object' returned while attempting to link a new merchant account to Point of Sale has been resolved.

Release 12 (R12)

  • Point of Sale will no longer return an error if the backup screen is clicked on while the backup is taking place
  • When opening Point of Sale error message "Value cannot be null. Parameter:s" will no longer occur
  • Point of Sale will no longer become unresponsive when the 'Company Operations' window is open and the program is clicked on
  • The Connection Wizard will now assist in connecting client workstations to the server
  • Client can now be updated automatically if client is trying to connect to a server of higher release
  • Point of Sale Add-ons developed by third party developers will no longer return an error when adding multiple items to a receipt using IPOSDocumentItems.AddItems in the add on interface
  • Help section will now show correctly in all windows
  • Point of Sale Add-ons developed by third party developers will no longer timeout on REST Queries
  • Operating System information now being reported correctly when participating in the Analytics Study
  • Home page will now be enabled immediately after closing any window in Point of Sale
  • Search accuracy from Item List improved
  • 'QBPOSShell has stopped working' will no longer display when right clicking on Point of Sale from the task bar and then selecting the Point of Sale program
  • Point of Sale will now minimize when the icon is clicked on from the task bar.
  • Cursor will now default to the swipe field when taking a debit card as form of payment
Sales, Purchasing and Items
  • Multiple instances of Purchase Order will no longer occur
  • Customer history can now be viewed from the sales receipt
  • Selecting a sales receipt from customer history will no longer return an error
  • The correct Purchase Order will now show when accessing Purchase Orders from the Sales Order list
  • Selecting Purchase Order from the 'In progress' menu will now display the new Purchase Order instead of the Purchase Order list
  • Item Stats will now show statistics for more than 100 records
  • Net Sales will now display correctly for all items
  • Receiving Voucher will now display correctly when accessing a voucher by going to Reports > Vendor List, selecting a vendor and choosing the 'View List' option then choosing 'Receive items from this vendor' from the 'I Want To' menu
  • On hand quantities of 100,000 or more will no longer return and 'Invalid Input' message
  • Return Item receipt number will now display when accepting a return on a Sales Receipt.
  • Customer history and statistics will now display correctly when creating a new customer
  • Selecting 'Make a Sale' from the 'Switch To' menu on a customer after accessing it from the Customer List will now take you to a Sales Receipt
  • All Displayed Customers' will now display accurate information when exporting customers to Excel
  • Customer Type' field will no longer truncate types with more than sixteen characters.
Employee Security
  • Employee Security now displays the correct help topic
  • Description of security right will now display when a Security Right is selected
  • Employee security group can no longer make changes to store account settings
Financial Exchange
  • Point of Sale will no longer become unresponsive when exchanging data with QuickBooks for larger Point of Sale data files
  • The full item description from the Point of Sale receipt will now be sent to QuickBooks in the financial exchange
Mobile Sync
  • Non-taxable items sold on mobile devices will no longer cause an 'Unbalanced Payment' error in the financial exchange and will send successfully to QuickBooks.
  • "Value cannot be null. Parameter:s" will no longer be returned when running a mobile sync

Release 11 (R11)

  • A new company file can now have a period at the end of the name.
  • When opening Point of Sale error message "Value cannot be null. Parameter:s" will no longer occur.
  • Usage and Analytics Study added
  • Point of Sale Add-ons developed by third party developers will no longer timeout on REST Queries
  • Customer Statistics window now has accurate data.
  • Will no longer give an error when adding a customer with multiple email addresses to a sales receipt.
Sales, Purchasing and Items
  • When selecting Item Detail in Item List it will appear without additional delay.
  • Correct item will now display and print when printing tags from the Item List.
  • Will no longer give an error when changing Price Level on a Unit of Measure item.
  • Search results now show correct item details.
  • Open PO view from Homepage now takes you to the Open PO list.
  • Cursor now returns to scan/enter item info box after using Quick Pick items.
  • Will no longer receive error when creating a new item, vendor or customer.
  • Receipt number is now visible in item history.
  • Receipt number is now visible in customer history.
Multi Store Functionality
  • Remote Store will now prompt when scanning an unrecognized item.
  • Reward symbol now displays at remote store.
Financial Exchange
  • Will no longer give an error when sending a return receipt with group items to QuickBooks.

Release 10 (R10)

  • Issue with installing the most recent update using the Microsoft Installer has been resolved.

Release 9 (R9)

Mobile Sync
  • Error in mobile sync referencing a sync token mismatch has been resolved.
  • Merchant accounts will now stay linked properly.
  • Item search will now return accurate items when using the search option in the Item list.

Release 8 (R8)

Mobile Sync
  • Items using a longer ID will now sync correctly to the Point of Sale software from GoPayment, reducing the inventory accordingly.
  • Improved security when typing in the last four numbers of a credit card number
  • Voided transactions will now be batched out as voids.

Release 7 (R7)

  • Resolved an issue where in certain situations the Merchant Services Center was reporting duplicate transactions. Note that this was a display issue only, there were no actual duplicate transactions performed.
Financial Exchange
  • Credit and debit batch times have been changed to 12:00 a.m. local time (for the merchant, Pacific Time for Intuit), to reduce interference with retail business operations.
    • This change is effective immediately for credit card transactions.
    • The change will also be made for debit card transactions within the next four business days. Until the change is completed for debit transactions, batching will continue to occur at 3:00 p.m. local time.
  • Issues relating to remote stores potentially displaying breakout incorrectly after financial exchange with QuickBooks have been fixed.
  • GoPayment transactions will now be grouped together in QuickBooks reconciliation after financial exchange.

Release 6 (R6)

Mobile Sync
  • An error that could result when creating a void in GoPayment and performing a Mobile Sync with Point of Sale has been resolved.
  • An issue where Point of Sale could potentially time out during credit card processing has been resolved.
  • Certain conditions could cause Point of Sale to not start correctly- This issue has been resolved.

Release 5 (R5)

Sales, Purchasing and Items
  • Improved messaging for reversing receipts that have been sent to QuickBooks
  • Corrected messaging about backorder items
  • Issue corrected with spreading freight among items on a voucher
  • An issue with the "Insufficient Quantity" messaging referencing the wrong item has been corrected.
  • An issue with accessing physical inventory after changing between stores has been resolved.
  • An issue with receiving an "Unexpected error" while editing customer info on sales receipt after printing Customer ID had been resolved
Mobile Sync
  • Help content for GoPayment Basic is now displayed.
  • Department/Category sync
Import/Export Data
  • Can no longer import Department Names and Codes over the allowed character limit.
  • Restarting POS will no longer be required after switching between merchant accounts.
  • An issue with cash back when using the same debit card in one day has been resolved.
  • An issue with an incorrect time showing up when reconciling POS credit and debit transactions in QuickBooks has been resolved.
  • An issue with all debit card transactions being grouped together after sending them from POS to QuickBooks has been resolved.
  • An issue with using multiple merchant numbers within POS for different data files has been resolved.
  • An issue with customer names not showing up on charges in the MSC has been resolved.
  • New messaging added to prompt closing POS after processing voice authorization transactions so they will batch out.
  • Receipt tendering updated to reflect the Discover Network which now includes Diners and JCB.
  • An issue with how transactions are charging after outages has been resolved
Multi Store Functionality
  • Assemblies built at the Remote store now displays the correct Remote Store On-hand Quantity.
  • When scrolling through the Customer List, the correct current customer reward is updated.
  • Will no longer give an error when adding new customers on different workstations at the same time.
  • Will no longer give an in-product error when emailing a Customer Order.
  • Improved performance when working with larger inventory data.
Employee Security
  • Security check for associate level when editing items is now working as designed.

Release 3 (R3)

Sales, Purchasing and Items
  • Resolved an issue where using more than 11 digits in the PO # field would not save the PO
  • Resolved an issue where editing receipts would incorrectly trigger a time stamp change
  • Resolved issue when generating Purchase Orders using a specific option could result in wrong quantity being suggested
  • Resolved issue selling multiple quantities of a group item and using price level discounts
  • Resolved an issue with ALUs being copied over incorrectly to Purchase Orders under certain circumstances
  • Resolved an issue where under certain circumstances scanning a UPC on the main screen would bring up the incorrect item
  • Resolved issue where sales tax could still be charged when the option to collect sales tax was unchecked
User Interface and Navigation
  • Resolved issue where sizing of POS window could impact how many items were available for selection when using Quick Picks
  • Minor usability fixes when navigating in the Customize Buttons window
  • Resolved an issue with selecting department names after entering a partial name
  • Resolved an issue where filtering on special characters were not returning expected results
  • Resolved an issue where up and down arrow buttons would become unusable when sorting in the ‘Customize Buttons’ window
  • Increased ease of use when removing discounts from receipts
  • 'Sales History' button now available to be designed onto Receipts screen
  • Previously available options when viewing Customer Orders from ‘I Want To’ menu have been restored
  • Sticky notes now display messages properly when switching between view types
  • Resolved issue where upgrading gift card accounts at Remote stores could set account to 'off' incorrectly
  • Resolved possible issues with how credit and debit tenders may appear on receipts
  • Resolved an issue where incorrect message may appear using iPP350 PIN pad
  • Formatting has been corrected in debit payments window
  • Resolved issue where voice authorization messages were appearing incorrectly when closing POS
  • Voice Authorization phone numbers now display correctly after upgrading
  • Merchant Number now appears correctly in Voice Authorization Dialog
Mobile Sync
  • Resolved issue with refresh time display in mobile sync window when using the 24 hour sync frequency
  • Resolved a problem where changing tax code name could result in taxable status change when syncing with Go Payment
  • Home screen now available after selecting ‘Mobile’ checkbox in item list
  • ‘Sync to mobile’ field now more readily visible in Free and Basic levels of POS
Financial Exchange
  • Credit transactions sent via Financial Exchange will now be separated by date header when viewing payments to deposit in QuickBooks
  • Resolved issue where alternate vendor details were not being sent correctly to QuickBooks
Reports and Printing
  • Resolved issue where Inventory valuation report would sometimes not run correctly after modifying date range
  • Reprint options now available in customer history
  • Physical inventory reports display correctly after adjustments are made
  • Clarified messaging when printing tags from vouchers
Employee Security
  • Resolved issue with entering dollar discounts when logged in under the Associate level security
  • Resolved issue with Company Operations being available when logged in under the Associate level security
  • Performance improvement with larger lists
  • Resolved error when clicking 'Visit Now' button in setup interview under certain circumstances
  • Last received column will now display the last received date correctly
  • Resolved issue where items were not able to be deleted at a client workstation

Release 2 (R2)

  • Resolved an issue which resulted in a 'Batch Full-Settle Now' message during credit card processing.
  • Resolved an issue where credit card transactions were processed as manual instead of swiped
  • Upgraders using direct dial credit card processing will no longer receive the message 'Cannot establish connection with modem. Check modem setup'.
  • Made security enhancements to all credit card processing work flows.
  • Fixed an issue with manual transactions that resulted in AVS mismatch errors.
  • Fixed an SDK connectivity issue with the Request Processor.
