Tracking Overtime

I'm using QuickBooks Time Pay Rate Engine to set up rules for overtime. The rules that I would like to apply are:

  • Regular Overtime: x1.25 if daily work hour exceeds 8 hours
  • Late Night Overtime: x1.5 for hours worked after 10:00pm and before 5:00am
  • If the shift started before 10:00pm runs late, the Late Night Overtime applies to the hours worked after 10:00pm

In the Payroll Report, I can see the first rule is applied and shows up as 1.25 Overtime, but the second rule (Late Night Overtime) does not.  Am I missing something in the setting or is there any other report that I can track the hours with multiple overtime rules?

Tracking Overtime

Thank you for coming back, @Nrk75! I did some digging and found out what's going on!

It took a bit, but I found the user who had those hours after 10 pm but wasn't showing any overtime. There's a setting in every user profile in My Team that says "Exempt". This means exempt from overtime rules. When I checked, the user you're referring to had this checked as "yes". You'll want to go in there and check it as "no".

Then rerun the Payroll Report and it should now show as accurate. Here's where to find that setting:

  1. Go to My Team on the left menu.
  2. Click on the user's profile.
  3. Under the General Tab, look toward the bottom for Exempt.
  4. Mark as No.
  5. Save.

Let me know how this works for you. I'm always happy to help!

Tracking Overtime

Good morning, @Nrk75! Welcome to the Community and thanks for coming here for help with your overtime. I can definitely help you out!

The Payroll Report is exactly where you want to be. :) I was able to take a look into your account and see that both overtime rules in the Pay Rate Engine are set up correctly. It looks like it's assigned to four of your employees. When I ran the Payroll Report for those employees for 4/1-4/30, I didn't see any timesheets of theirs that qualify for that rule (after 10 pm). That's why you wouldn't see that overtime field showing on the top of the report. It'll only show if there is time that falls into that category.

If you were running that report for different dates, let me know! Or if I misunderstood, feel free to clarify. I can definitely take another look.

Thank you for your reply @K_Siman ! I actually set up Pay Rate Engine for 2 groups (manager and non-manager) as different rules apply to these groups. During the April pay period, only the manager had overtime of past 10pm. For simplicity, I moved the manager to the same group as other four employees and ran the Payroll Report, but I still don't see the hours that qualify for the Late Night Overtime rule. Can you have another look at the setting?

Oh, I see! Thanks @K_Siman !

I totally forgot about the Exempt setting in the employee profile. I fixed the setting and now I can see their overtime showing up in the payroll report.

Thank you so much for your prompt support!
