The system would function better and be more user friendly if it is set-up to require a user name (email address) and a password. This issue of needed a verification code is an unnecessary step, cumbersome, and cost additional time: waiting around for email code and then having to cut and paste into another portal.
Or, at least all one to set-up up which best their needs / requirements.

Passwords, on their own, aren't always secure; if someone gets your password, they can access your account and make unauthorized changes. We want to protect your account by making sure it's really you. The security of your account is at the pinnacle of importance.
