Add a percentage to invoice total

Have my invoicing and sales reciept set up with a shop supplies line that will add 2% to the last item on the invoice, looking for a way to add that 2% to all line items instead of just the last item.

Add a percentage to invoice total

Type "Subtotal" or similar in the item field and when prompted to setup a new item, set one up of the Subtotal sub-type.

Add a percentage to invoice total

You can create a new charge item and add it below the subtotal item, Maria T.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the List menu.
  2. Click on Item List and click on New.
  3. Select Other Charge from the Type drop-down option.
  4. Enter the name.
  5. Enter the percentage (%) amount and choose the Tax Code.
  6. Select the Account and click on OK.

When creating an invoice, add this item after the Subtotal.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Welcome and thanks for joining this conversation, @TheSweetSittter.

Allow me to chime in for a moment and help make sure that your concern is taken care of.

Just to clarify, are you referring to the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Pro version? If so, the process is just the same as what my colleague @GarlynGay provided above. You can follow the same steps to add the percentage (%) below the subtotal.

For future reference, you can also check out this article for further guidance: Add, edit, and delete items.

That should get you pointed in the right direction. Please let me know how it goes or if you're referring to something else so I can get back to you. I'm always here to help. Take care and have a wonderful rest of the week!

Add a percentage to invoice total

Hi,

As SweetSitter asked, how do we add a percentage fee to a subtotal in Quickbooks Online, not the desktop version. The two versions have different layouts for putting in items.

Thank you!

Add a percentage to invoice total

Hi there, barrywbrewer.

There's a slight different on how to set up and use the percentage of subtotal in QuickBooks Online.

Here's how to set up an item:

  1. Click on the Sales from the let navigation.
  2. Select Products and Services.
  3. Click on New.
  4. Choose Service item.
  5. Enter the item information.
  6. In the amount field, enter the negative amount (if it's a discount) and enter the positive.
  7. Click on Save and Close

When creating a transaction, add this item. Here's a sample screenshot:

In case you need to view an article about applying discounts, here it is: Apply a discount on an invoice or sales receipt

I will make sure to connect and get back to you if you have other questions.

You'll need to enter the negative amount in the amount field (if it's a discount) and enter the positive.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Sales, then select Products and Services.
  2. Click on New.
  3. Choose the Service item.
  4. Enter the item information.
  5. In the amount field, enter the negative amount (if it's a discount) and enter the positive.
  6. Hit Save and Close

For more detailed steps, you can follow this article about applying discounts, here it is: Add a discount to an invoice or sales receipt in QuickBooks Online.

Hello there, @TS Delaney.

I'd be glad to help add a subtotal line to your invoice.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu at the left panel.
  2. Select Invoices and open the invoice you want to add the subtotal.
  3. Fill in the necessary information on the invoice page.
  4. After you enter the Product/ServiceDescriptionQTYRate, and the Amount of the item, click the Add subtotal button at the lower-left corner.
  5. When done, click Save.

How do I set up a 1.5% charge in the footer to add 1.5% to total invoice?

Add a percentage to invoice total

Good day, RudyE.

I'm here to show you how to add a footer message in QuickBooks Online.

We can customize your invoice template so we can add a note. However, if you're using QuickBooks Payments, the transaction fee is being calculated and deducted based on the total paid amount. Also, adding a footer note won't be added to the total invoice.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Custom form styles.
  2. Find the template you're using and click Edit.
  3. From the Content tab, click the footer section.
  4. Enter it in the Add footer text field. Click Done to save.

Here are some of the articles you want to check about QuickBooks Payments:

How can I add that percentage in the footer so it would automatically add 1.5% to the sub total?

Add a percentage to invoice total

Well, thanks for the reply, but I just upgraded to QB pro 2020.  I also just purchased gen lia ins. I need to add 1.5% to total invoice to recoup cost.  My total box is in the footer and totals invoice as I generate.  I want to add a text box in footer, that will automatically calculate 1.5% of total which will show in balance due.

Thanks for coming back, RudyE.

The option to add a text box in the footer that will automatically calculate 1.5% to the total invoice is unavailable. We need to manually create an Other Charge item for the 1.5% rate. This item type used for things like shipping charges, markups, or other line items that appear on your invoices.

You can also add a Subtotal item to add up everything that comes before it. It provides a subtotal before you add shipping charges, markups, or subtracts any discounts or prepayments.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the List menu.
  2. Choose Item List.
  3. Tap the Item drop-down at the bottom and select New
  4. Select Other Charge from the Type drop-down option.
  5. Enter the Item Name/Number, Amount, or percentage (%), Tax Code, and Account.
  6. Press OK.

For setting up a Subtotal item, just choose that item in Step 4. For more details about this one, check out this article: Add, edit, and delete items.

Once done, create an invoice and manually enter the Other Charge or Subtotal in the Item column.

I've got a link here that provides you with articles about managing your invoices: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/sales-and-customers/invoices/08?product=QuickBooks....

That should get you pointed in the right direction. I'm just one click away if you need a hand with running customer reports. Take care and have a wonderful rest of the week.
