Adding Contact Data

Hello, I am trying to upload an Excel file of Customer contacts to QB, but am getting the attached error message.  I have no idea what it means, let alone how to fix the problem.  If anyone knows what to do with this, any advice would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

I can help you sort out your concern about importing files into QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac, @AKAKAK.

Regarding the error message you encounter when trying to import data, we can perform the steps below to fix it:

  1. To close the Import status window, select OK.
  2. Look for the things with red X's on the spreadsheet.
  3. Choose the item marked with a red X. A notice displays that explains what went wrong.
  4. Re-select Import after fixing the items.
  5. When the import is finished, click OK.

I also suggest you check out this article to learn more about importing contacts and how to fix any missed entries when importing transactions: Import data into QuickBooks for Mac.

If you want to know what the other lists you can import to QuickBooks Desktop are, you can check that out here: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Feel free to add a comment if you need further assistance with importing data. I’m hoping your business will prosper. Have a great day!

Thank you.  The problem is that I do not understand the notice that comes up next to the items marked with an X, so I can't fix the problem.

Thank you, @Candice C .  I was on the page that asks you to paste columns from an Excel file to import contact data.

Adding Contact Data

Thanks for following up with the Community, AKAKAK. I appreciate your detailed information.

Since you're receiving this message when trying to import contacts from spreadsheets, I'd recommend confirming that each customer's information is entered properly.

Once you choose Paste from a spreadsheet, you'll want to be sure to open the spreadsheet you're working with and copy each customer's First Name column, then paste your copied text into QuickBooks. Once you've finished entering their names, you'll need to make sure that each customer you want imported has their Import box ticked. Before completing your import, also confirm there's no blank name fields and that everything's labeled correctly.

If you continue receiving the error, I'd recommend using your Verify utility to see if anything needs to be rebuilt.

Here's how:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to File, then Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data.
  3. Select OK.

If you receive a "Your data has failed the integrity check" message, you'll need to rebuild your file:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to File, then Utilities.
  2. Choose Rebuild Data.
  3. Hit OK.
  4. QuickBooks will ask you if you'd like to backup your company file before rebuilding it. Click OK to create a backup or Cancel to continue the rebuild without creating one.
  5. Select OK.

In the event your Verify utility doesn't find any problems with the data, or you completed a rebuild and are continuing to receive the error when importing contacts, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull your account up in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have a great day!

Thank you, @ZackE .  Everything seems to be correct on the spreadsheet. I also tried directly entering information from one contact in the Import Contacts form, but it always brings up the same error message.  Since I don't have any contacts now, Verify Data finds no issues.
