After viewing an invoice that had been paid in full QBO increased the amount of tax owed on it. Now it says the client owes additional money. How do I fix this?

I did compare the original invoice to the new one and made sure all the same items were marked taxable or not. The only change is the amount of taxes it says are owed.

Hi there, creciawhite-hotm.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. QuickBooks Online gives you two options in setting up and managing your sales tax with your transactions. With this, may I ask for further details about your concern if you're utilizing the automatically calculated sales tax feature or the manual one? I appreciate any extra information so I can provide an exact solution.

In the meantime, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using an incognito or private browser. Then, view the invoice that has been paid from there. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view details on how you can record, adjust and delete sales tax payments in the sales tax center: Manage sales tax payments in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to click the Reply button below to add additional details or let me know if there's anything else you need help with about sales tax. I'm always here to help you anytime. Take care and keep safe!

Thank you for your response. I ended up calling in and after lots of research it looks like QBO made an error calculating the taxes on the original invoice. When I went back in to view the invoice QBO corrected itself showing the higher amount owed.
