Aging Report

My Aging Summary is not in alphabetical order.  It's hard to compare the reports month to month when I don't get them in the same order.  I don't have an option to sort by name either.  Can this be done or not?

Re: Aging Report

Thanks for the quick response, nessllc1.

Let me take over and help you organize your customers in alphabetical order on your A/R Aging Summary report via QuickBooks Desktop.

The customer names on the report will depend on how you manage the names in the Customer Center. You may want to drag and organize your customers in alphabetical order from there.

Here's how:

  1. Click Customers at the top menu bar and choose Customer Center.
  2. Drag the Diamond icon beside the customer's name.
  3. Set the names in alphabetical order.

This way, your report will be sort in alphabetical order. See the sample screenshot below.

Re: Aging Report

Hi nessllc1,

Yes, you can sort the Aging Summary by name in QuickBooks Desktop.

The default option will automatically generate in alphabetical order. On the other hand, the total will generate by amount.

I'll show you how to do it.

  1. Click Reports at the top portion.
  2. Select Vendors and Payable to choose and click the Aging Summary.
  3. In the Sort By, click the Drop-down arrow.
  4. Then, select Default.

I've added a sample screenshot for the A/P and A/R Aging Summary report:

If you have further questions about the Reports. I'll be around to help you.

Re: Aging Report

Not quite what I'm asking.  I am looking for the aging report for receivables.  AND the default is not alphabetical in my report.  That is why I'm having a problem.

Re: Aging Report

Thanks for getting back to us, @nessllc1.

Are you referring to the Accounts Receivable (A/R) Aging Summary report? If so, as mentioned above, the default sorting option is in alphabetical order. This only applies to parent customers.

Below is a sample screenshot from my QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) sample file.

On the other hand, if you're referring to the sub-customers or jobs, QBDT doesn't have an option to sort them alphabetically. You can export them to Excel and customize it from there as a workaround. Here's how:

1. Click the Excel drop-down at the top.
2. Pick Create New  Worksheet.
3. Select Export.

I thank you both for your responses.  I do understand that the report is supposed to be in alphabetical order.  I have used quickbooks for 9 years, however; it is not.  I don't know if something changed, or if there is an issue, but my list is not in alphabetical order.  I understand that this only applies to "parent" companies, but most of my customers are single customers.

Please see MY screen shot.
