Are there any drawbacks to using class to differentiate inventory assemblies?

Seems to me that when I switched to QB from sage I tried to use the class field to segregate my items but ran into a problem. Now I would like to revisit the idea and can't remember why I did not set it up to start.

No, class tags transactions to allow for reporting, it is not a segregating kind of thing

building an assembly item is not a transaction in that respect, you have not sold it, so there is no class assignment for the build.
