Assign unspecified transactions by class in a bulk JE

Is there a way to do a mass bulk journal entry to move unspecified transactions on the P&L by class report to a particular class in QBO? We have transactions that should be assigned to two classes and then we have the unspecified transaction column. Instead of going transaction by transaction for each entry from January to August 2024, is there a way to assign class to these unspecified transactions?

Assign unspecified transactions by class in a bulk JE

Yes, APEA. There is a way to create multiple journal entries in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to move unspecified transactions on the Profit and Loss by Class report to a particular class. I'll guide you on how to achieve it:

  1. First, go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Profit and Loss by Class. to view all transactions, including unspecified ones.
  3. In the Accountant Toolbox, find and select Batch Reclassify.
  4. Set the appropriate filters to scope down to the transactions you need. Set the date range from January to August 2024 and filter the transactions to show only those currently assigned to the Unspecified class.
  5. Once you have isolated the transactions, you'll see an option to reclassify by account or class. In your case, select the class(es) to which these transactions should be assigned.
  6. If transactions are to be split between two classes (e.g., some to Sales, some to Support), you will need to filter and select these groups of transactions separately within the tool.
  7. After reclassification, go to the Profit and Loss by Class report and see if the transactions now appear under the correct classes.
  8. Lastly, I recommend keeping a record of changes, especially noting which transactions were moved and to which classes. This documentation will be helpful for future reference or in case questions arise during an audit or review.
