Company upgraded to QB Desktop Pro 2019.   Budget vs Actual is standard monthly report.  Board said numbers weren't jiving and I did not catch it previously as budget was passed two months late.  The budget options skip a year.  They go from 2018-2019 to 2020-2021.  I can pull a report for 2019-2020; however, there are no budget figures.   And, the budget I input for this year is for 2020-2021 and it does not pull the actuals.  Been working with QB for years and it just seems to be getting worse.  Besides downloading two worksheets each month and combining the information, is there a way to add the missing fiscal year?  This is a new issue for me. Thanks!

Hello, @MacArthur Park.

I understand the importance of tracking your business income and spending and it is sad to hear that you have missing data on your file.

However, you can try to restore your file from your old QuickBooks to have complete data.

I can route you to our customer care support so they can check your account. They have the proper tools that will help you resolve this issue.

To reach them, here’s how.

1. Go to the Help tab.

2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.

3. Click Contact Us.

Also, you can refer to this link for additional information: Link.

Stay in touch with us if you have other questions. Take care!

I don't have missing data on my file.  Part of the program itself is missing.  How do I recover that?

Again, since QB thinks your response was sufficient.  There isn't any data for the 2019-2020 fiscal year to recover as we started it out new on the updated version.  Wanted it to be clean.  It just seemed like there was reports missing, etc.  But, this is part of the program itself.  You have budget templates for 10 years; however, the 2019-2020 year is not there at all.  Nothing I have done seems to be able to recreate it.  So, how do I put it into the system?

Hi there, @MacArthur Park.

You can upload a budget in QuickBooks Pro from Excel if you have all the information in an Excel file. This does require you to follow the heading and map the information correctly according to the screenshot below:

The steps below will show you how to upload the .IIF file into your company file:

  1. Navigate to the File menu.
  2. Press Utilities and select Import.
  3. Choose IIF Files.

Now you can upload the missing data you need for your budgets. You may find this article about the IIF overview helpful too.

Feel free to comment below if you have any other questions. Take care!

I am so disappointed as I am not making myself clear.   Uploading  data from an Excel spreadsheet is NOT going to solve the issue.    I know how to upload data from a spreadsheet.

I have worked with QuickBooks since near inception as it was created as an auditing tool.    I know how to create a budget.  There isn't an option to enter data for the fiscal period I need.  The current fiscal year is not available to input anything.  So, uploading the data is useless.  There isn't a year for it to input.  The entire fiscal year is missing.  I don't know if it was even included in the original program.  I only know it is not there now.  It skipped a year.  Can I make that any clearer?

I understand how important this feature working to you, @MacArthur Park.

We need to make sure everything is correct by checking the fiscal year setting within the company file and examining how the budget is being set up in QuickBooks Desktop.

To verify if the fiscal year setting is correct, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Company menu, select My Company.Capture4.1.JPG

2. Click the Pencil icon and choose Report Information.Capture5.JPG

3. Go to the First month in your fiscal year field to see the month and update if necessary.Capture5.1.JPG

4. Hit OK to save the changes.Capture5.2.JPG

Now, determine how the budget is set up. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu, select Planning & Budgeting.
  2. Choose Set Up Budgets. If you’ve set up one before, the most recent budget will be displayed in the Set Up Budgets window.
  3. Click Create New Budget.
  4. Specify the budget year, then choose between Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet.
  5. For the Profit and Loss Budget, specify additional criteria of either Customer: Job or Class, if class tracking is turned on.
  6. Select whether you want to Create a budget from scratch or Create a budget from the previous year’s actual data for Profit and Loss Budget.
  7. Once done, click Finish.

Anna:

I guess I just have this problem with English and not making myself clear.  The fiscal year is correct.  Per yoru instructions above, everything looks great until you come to line 4:

"Specify the budget year, then choose between Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet."

There is a budget for 2018-2019 and there is an option for the budget year 2020-2021.   BUT, THE BUDGET OPTION FOR FISCAL YEAR 2019-2020 IS MISSING.  IT IS NOT THERE.  IT SKIPS A YEAR.  And, yes,  the budget year is correct in the company report section.

I will ask again.  What must I do to get that budget year included in the software?  Thank you!

Was this issue ever corrected?  Fiscal year 2020/2021 is missing for an option when trying to input that fiscal year's budget.  It was addressed in April 7 question and it doesn't appear to have been answered, at least not in this link.  I'm having the same problem.

You can follow the steps provided by my colleagues, Gottashiner. It'll help you fix the issue.

Although, if there's no difference, I suggest reaching out to our customer care support. This way, an agent can take a better look at this. You can follow Catherine_B's steps on how to get in touch with us.

I'll also add the article on how to fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file as future reference.
