Budgets

I set up a new budget for this fiscal year. I chose to enter it from scratch and my budget is entered by Class. However, when I ran a Profit and Loss Budget Overview for the entire fiscal year, there are entries in four months for Bank Fees. There should be nothing there. I have searched for a few hours trying to find where this came from and how to delete it. I have searched through each class, looking for these entries, no luck.

How can I find where these entries came from so that I can delete them? Can I delete my budget and start over? Thanks for any help you can give.

It’s nice to have you in the Community today, @Karen Brodniak.

I can definitely help you in deleting a budget in your QuickBooks Desktop account to clear it and add a new one from scratch.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu and tap Planning & Budgeting.
  2. Click on the Setup Budgets option.
  3. Go to the drop-down list and select the budget you want to remove.
  4. If needed, specify the Class or Customer Job.
  5. Choose Edit and then Delete Budget.
  6. Finally, hit Yes.

Also, I'll provide you the steps on how to find where these unknown entries came from.

Follow these steps:

  1.  Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Choose Budgets & Forecasts, there are two reports to look at to understand the data you are using:
Budget Overview = shows the Numbers you entered for that budget.
  3. Run Budget vs Actuals.

Thank you so much for your help. I don't know why I did not try edit and delete. I guess I looked at it for too long. I was able to delete the budget and create a new one, which got rid of the mystery numbers.

I did try to find where those numbers came from. I had already ran the Budget Overview and Budget vs. Actual. This is where I found the detail of the entries, but I still don't know how they got there. They did not match last year's entries, and the budget was supposed to be created from scratch, but four entries kept showing up under Bank fees. I looked through every class in the budget, but I could not find where the entries came from.

At any rate, thanks again.
