Can I change a remaining balance due from a bill created in a prior period (that I don't want to change in the period originally issued)?

Original bill for $2K...payment made of $209.65...balance is no longer owed...period of original bill is closed.

You cannot edit transactions from a closed period but you can issue a current period credit memo to apply

Yes...that's what I need to know how to do...should I just do that through a JE?  And reduce the amount of the payable for the current period (leaving it at zero)?

Yes...I want to edit the remaining balance in the current period...I don't want to edit the prior period...so, I think you're saying, just do it through a JE, right?  Thanks in advance.
