Can I place a hold on a customers credit card? Their card will not be charged when job is done as they will pay full amount in cash.

Hello there, @oxendinefarm.

I'm here to help with your question about placing a hold on a customer's credit card.

Currently, this specific feature you mentioned is unavailable for QuickBooks Payments (Merchant Services). I can see how it can be useful both to you and other users as well.

Alternatively, you can temporarily make the customer inactive in your QBO account. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and proceed to the Customers tab.
  2. Look for the name of the customer and click on it.
  3. Click the Edit button in the upper-right hand corner.
  4. Select Make inactive.
  5. Click Yes.

To make the customer active again, you can go back to the same page and click the Make Active button in the upper-right-hand corner. Here's an article about this for more details: Add and Manage Customers in QuickBooks Online.

You can view this article for a list of different methods you can process payments in QuickBooks Payments: Process and take payments with QuickBooks Payments.

You may refer to this article about what happens when you take payment from your payments account and a few guidelines to follow to protect and manage your new account and also prevent fraud: Accepting credit card payments: The Basics.

Keep me posted if you have follow-up concerns about QuickBooks. I'd be happy to help you more. Keep safe.

As I know, the feature is only available with certain payment gateways (e.g USAePay, Authorize.net). You will need a 3rd party connector to integrate it with QBO.
