Can I restore my company data from a QB desktop to QB online so that I can retrieve customer data?

Is there any specific reason? If you only need to open the file, you can utilize the trial version for QB Desktop to restore it. Or do you need to migrate data to QB Online?

Hello, davidliter777.

I appreciate the time you've spent in reaching out to us. I'm here to share some information regarding the process and help you transfer data to QBO.

Restoring backup files directly to QBO is not an option, but you can restore the file by opening it first to the QB trial version  and then transferring data to QBO. Let me guide you how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop trial version.
  2. Go to the File menu and click Open or Restore Company.
  3. Tap  Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  4. Choose Local Backup and then Next.
  5. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  6. Choose a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then hit Open.
  7. When you're ready, tap Save. If you see any messages about possibly overwriting your data, select the option that best fits your needs. Don't overwrite anything unless you know you want to.

Once done, you are now ready to convert it to QBO:

In addition, you also have the option to manually import bank transactions to your QuickBooks Online.
