Arg, Mods and QB Team. This doesn't answer my question. I just want a straight answer to my question. Why do Sales of Product Income and Billable Expense Income keep regenerating if I merge them, as per Mod instruction and as per the article.
You just keep saying vague things that don't answer the question I've asked four times now.
If you don't know, just say you don't know so I can close this thread.
Hello there, PVOLLC.
I've tested merging the default Sales of Product Income account to the one I created in QuickBooks, and it didn't generate another account
For us to know what's causing this behavior, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. We will investigate this with our engineers.
Here's how you can reach out to us:
You can always get back to us here if you have additional questions. Thanks.
@RenjolynC Lol you guys sure do make a big production out of not answering the question. Arrows pointing to the help button, let's talk button, etc. and a whole diagram on how to reach "support." I'm not sure if you're trying to be condescending or not, but you are.
Anyhow, I spent two hours in chat with support yesterday (Air Rica R). There was a lot of running back and forth between him/her and his "back team," as I answered all of his/her questions.
After two hours, I had to go and he/she said he/she'd email me what they found out. And I still haven't heard anything.
And here's the audit log showing that I can't even edit the names of these accounts:
In every instance except "Purchases" where I changed the name of the accounts, System Admin created a new one with the original name:
Seriously, what gives? Makes it pretty difficult to set up my CoA.
I am seeing the exact same problem. Talked to QB help and the agent said he have never seem this issue before and I or other user must have accidently created all the accounts. He did eventually view the audit log and saw all the accounts are created by system. He has forward my case to the backend team but has been 3 days and I have received no update. How was your issue got resolved? Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks.
Hi there, @CT69.
Thanks for sharing your concern in this conversation. Here in Intuit QuickBooks, any reported issues will be investigated thoroughly by our engineers.
Once they identify the cause, they'll make a series of troubleshooting steps to make sure it gets resolved. Hence, the process would take more than three days.
In your case, I'd recommend you contact our Customer Care team again for a follow-up. You can ask them for the investigation number or a case number for your reference.
Just in case, here's an article that will guide you in managing accounts in your chart of accounts.
Should you have additional questions, feel free to visit us again at any time. We're always here to help.
Thanks for bringing this one to our attention, nobrand.
I appreciate you for merging your accounts on your end, I've checked here on our end and there's no reported case about this one. To better isolate if this is a browser issue or not, let's try signing in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't use the existing cache data and helps us confirm browser-related issues. Here's how:
Then, try merging the accounts again. To learn more about which default or special account can be deleted, edited, or merged, see Manage default and special accounts in your chart of accounts article.
If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. We can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.
If the same thing happens, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and check what's causing this issue. To ensure we address your concern, our representatives are available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Saturdays, PST. See our support hours and types for more details about this one.

Hello there, @nobrand,
I can see the need to get this issue resolved, so I'll point you in the right direction.
I've reviewed the conversation last two weeks ago, and we'll need to access your account securely. If you haven't contacted our support team yet, I'd suggest you do so. They can double-check the root cause of the issue if this is related to your browser or not. They can assist you from there to help fix it. They are available from 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Monday to Friday) and 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Saturday).
Please let me know if you have follow-up concerns regarding managing your accounts or other inquiries. I'll gladly help. Keep safe.
Brand new company account in QBO and having the same issue, if I change settings in the account I got back to the COA and BAM! There's new lines added for Billable Expense Income ... I do not need these!! It's making my COA messy, and not a good impression moving this company over from Xero to QB.....
I appreciate you for sharing the details with me, @Amandamoore907.
Please know this isn't the kind of experience I want you to have with QuickBooks. I can see how important it is to have your Chart of Accounts well organized. Allow me to share with you some insights and troubleshooting steps to isolate this issue.
Let’s roll out a possible browser cache issue. Cache stored for some time causes uncommon behavior. Thus, it can affect the view and performance of your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
To verify this, let’s access your account on a private window (incognito). You can refer to the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague RCV above.
If the issue persists after going through the steps above, I suggest contacting our Support Team. There, they can securely check your account and investigate this further. Here’s how to reach out to them:

In case you have other queries or questions about your accounts in QBO, you can always leave a reply to this post. I’d be glad to help you out. Stay safe.
Same issue. This is a bug in QBO and it's highly annoying. I keep having to inactivate these auto-generated accounts over and over and over again. I don't need these accounts and I wish QBO would provide someway to disable the auto-generation of accounts that aren't absolutely necessary...or at the very least, if I inactivate an account don't recreate it! I inactivated it for a reason :)
Thanks for your feedback and insights about this feature in QuickBooks, @ahelton,
QuickBooks Online have auto-generated default and special accounts. These are created based on the industry or tax form you selected when you create your QBO company.
These types of accounts cannot be deleted. If you try to make these accounts inactive, any entries or list modifications associated to these elements will recreate them.
Please see this link for more information about this automated accounts: Manage default and special accounts in your chart of accounts

I think we all understand that QuickBooks creates certain accounts by default and why it does so. But I create my own COGS and INCOME accounts as the default ones included in QBO aren't useful to me, and I don't use them. I wish the QBO would allow for such accounts to be inactivated/deleted. Likewise, I've no need personally for an Inventory Asset account as I have no inventory. These accounts ultimately just clutter up my Chart of Accounts. As it is, I'm just going to give these accounts a really high number so that they stay at the bottom of my Chart of Accounts so that I won't have to see them (at least I hope that works). Also, even the Billable Expense account seems to be recreating itself even after inactivating it/merging it. Every few days it'll show back up again.
Additionally, it be nice to be able to permanently delete these Billable Expense accounts as well as the other auto-generated expense accounts that were generated when I chose my profession upon QB account creation (i.e. Car & Truck, Job Supplies, etc.). As of now, it only allows me to inactivate these accounts, but I have zero need for them and would prefer to completely delete them so that they don't even show up in the inactivated accounts list.
