To record this in QuickBooks, I suggest creating a credit memo for the customer. This will allow QuickBooks to show that you collected the money, and your customer will have a credit for the deposit amount. You can create one in just a few clicks:
- Go to the + New button and choose Credit Memo.
- Choose a Customer, Service Date, and Product/Service.
- Press Save and Close.
