Welcome to the Community, lflaherty.

I'd be glad to help out so you're able to enter your existing inventory data.

This can be done with an Excel file. Here's how:

1. Go to the File menu, select Utilities then Import and then Excel Files.

2. Choose No if you get the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries window.

3. Follow the wizard in importing files:

  • Select the type of data.
  • QuickBooks opens a formatted Excel spreadsheet. Once you have entered your information, saved the file and closed it, you will be given the option to Add My Data Now.
  • Review results and view Data in QuickBooks.
  • Select Close when done.

I recommend checking out the following link to find out more about importing or exporting MS Excel files in your Desktop account.

Additionally, when you go to enter your inventory, there will be a Quantity on Hand field where you can enter existing amounts if you'd like to use that method instead.

That will do it. Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions.
