Can someone tell me why an international client has been able to pay invoices for the past several months but now they can't?

I don't think their payment method changed but if it did could that be the reason?

Yes, it's possible that your client changes their payment method. Here are the other possible reasons why their payments didn't go through: 

  • incorrect payment information
  • account might be on hold

Also, paying the invoice using a foreign bank is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. Currently, Merchant Services only accept payments from US banks. I'd suggest contacting Payments Support so we can securely check on why your clients were unable to pay their invoices online.  A specialist can look up your account and provide alternatives.

 

Lastly, your customer can contact the card-issuing bank to know if there is a way of using their international card with U.S. based businesses. You can read through this article for  more detailed inisghtse: Accept Non-US credit cards from customers using QuickBooks Merchant Services.

 

In the meantime, I recommend looking for a 3rd-party app that can integrate with QuickBooks and allow your customer to pay through online using an international bank. To do this, you'll need to go to the Apps inside QBO.

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Apps menu.
  2. Go to the Browse Category drop-down menu, select Data Sync.
  3. Select the app you want to integrate.
  4. Click Get App Now and complete the following on-screen instructions.
