Chart of Account Question Related to Credit Card Fees

i have a company file I have created.  This is for a new business.  When I selected the chart of accounts, I picked the one related to photography, which is what we are doing, drone photography and videography.  Now, unlike the other companies I have and their chart of accounts in Quickbooks, this chart of accounts created a Cost of Goods item called Merchant Account Fees.

I have always had to create accounts in my chart of accounts to use for Square, Paypal, Intuit Payment, etc. and I have always placed those as sub-accounts of Bank Service Charges.  So I remove the pre-created Merchant Account Fees that was put into the chart of accounts, or should I leave it in there and put my Square, Paypal, Intuit Payment and other's as sub-accounts to it and only use the Bank Service Charges for my actual checking account?

Chart of Account Question Related to Credit Card Fees

Hi @cdhodgdon.

I know you wanted well-organized accounts for recording transactions in the correct account registers. In this case, I encourage you to consult an accountant for professional advice. They can help you determine which accounts you can remove or place as sub-accounts or separate them from other parent accounts or which account you can use for checking.

You can check which accounts QuickBooks sets up for you and see the complete list of standard accounts through this article: Learn about the chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online. It includes the details on how to remove an account and add account numbers.

Please comment below if you have additional questions about the chart of accounts. I'm always here to help. Stay safe and well!

Chart of Account Question Related to Credit Card Fees

@Jovychris_A thank you for your reply.  I will look further into this then.  I have never used an accountant in nearly 30 years of business and with 5 for-profit businesses and 5 non-profit corporations, I will get this figured out.
