Check numbers not sequence

Hello, I've tried searching for an answer to this however I'm coming up short. I'll try to explain as well as I can.

When I print a check from Quickbooks (Mac2013 v14.0.8. r9), the number is out of sequence.

here is what I do. I go to banking> write checks. I add a new check with the correct number, that matches the paper check in the printer. When saved, I click print. However, when it prints, the quickbooks screen that pops up says "Did check # ## print correctly" yes/no. Yes it printed fine, however the qb register is off by 3!! how do I reset the internal register?

it is massively inconvenient to have to change each check after each time it's printed. Please help.

thank you!!

You are not getting a prompt because you keep putting in a number before it is even printed. The sequence is:

Enter the check info, to print.

Tell to print the check and tell QB what check # is loaded in the printer.
