Closing Owner's Draw for Several Years

I want to close or clear out Owner's Draw for all previous years back to 2015. This has only been done once by a previous accountant in 2018. I'd like to start closing it yearly to get a more accurate balance showing for the current year's draws. But I'm confused on how to close the Owner's Draw account. The 2018 Journal Entry closed Owner's Draw to Retained Earnings, is this correct? Would I create a Journal Entry for each year and close to Retained Earnings? I've been searching for the answer, but it only gets more confusing. Can someone help me correctly clear Owner's Draw so that I'm only seeing at least 2020 to current and then I can finally create a yearly routine to keep this account clean?

Closing Owner's Draw for Several Years

Thanks for visiting us here today, @SG91.

I have some information about closing an owner's draw account. Yes, you're correct. To close an owner's draw, you'll have to create a journal entry. In your case, you'll need to enter it by year. This way, you'll come up with a clean account for this year.

To create a journal entry, just click +New and then Journal entry.

Additionally, you can pull up the Profit and Loss by Detail report so you can review all the accounts activity. Here's how to get there.

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Enter Profit and Loss Detail in the search field.
  3. Set the Report period to Custom so you can choose the start and end date of your report.
  4. Click Run report.
