Join nowOur billing is done in a separate program and is pushed into QuickBooks Desktop. The billing department set up the GL Income accounts to go to the wrong account on 10 invoices. Now that they've realized this, they're asking me to adjust this so the income is correct on the P&L. How would one do this between 2 income accounts? Now that the GL accounts are mapped correctly, my first thought was to go into each invoice line item, change it to the correct account and save. It will not let me do this because this particular line item is a contract charge with no quantity or description (example attached). It is sent over from another program this way. Is there another way to adjust this this amount between 2 income accounts?
thank you!
Total the amount that is in the wrong income account then do a journal entry
debit the old income account for that amount
credit the correct income account for that amount
done
Because the account can only be set or changed on the invoice form when using an item, there isn't a way to change the income account on an invoice row that doesn't use an item.
I'd fix this by using an item. Set one up for the category of thing this is and then use it, replacing the detail rows that use the wrong account.
I also recommend changing the way those invoices are imported to use an item or items, as appropriate, as if you were entering the details manually in QuickBooks.
