Cost of Goods Sold in QBO

Thanks for visiting the Community today, @mw0813. We can pull up a report a Transactions List by Account Detail report, then add custom fields as columns to see the details about each transaction or line item.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Business overview tab, then to the Reports menu.
  2.  Enter the name of the report in the Search field.
  3. Select the report, then go to the gear icon at the top right of the report page.
  4. Under Change columns, check the box for Product/Service.
  5. Click anywhere outside the settings panel to close it. QuickBooks adds the columns to the right side of the report.

Cost of Goods Sold in QBO

I feel like I had found it somewhere else a couple of weeks ago and can't get back there.  Specifically, I am looking for  items sold that posted $0 for cost of goods sold to make adjustments for those few items.  I even have a specific $0 transaction that does not show in reports and should.  Any way to search for sales showing $0 for cost of goods sold in Quickbooks online?

Cost of Goods Sold in QBO

Hello there, @mw0813

Thank you for getting back to us and providing some feedback. Let me share some information about the Cost of Goods Sold.

When you sell inventory items on invoices or sales receipts your Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) will automatically be affected or matched. You can run the Journal Report for the invoice/sales receipt. From here, you'll see the Sales/Accounts Receivable transactions and Inventory/COGS transactions

Here's how to run the report:

  1. Go to your Reports tab from the left menu.
  2. Search for Journal from the search box, then run the report.

This report will show the debits and credits for each transaction listed by date.

You can refer to this article for more information about the impact of inventory tracking on balance sheets and profit & loss reports.

For future reference and to learn more about COGS in Quickbooks Online, you may check these articles below: What is FIFO and how is it used for inventory cost accounting?

I'm always here if you have additional questions about COGS tracking or other concerns, by leaving a comment below. Take care and have a wonderful day.
