Courier Font Rendering Issue on PDF Invoices

Just finished converting our invoice over to a quickbooks invoice template, in quickbooks enterprise. When printing an invoice in any format through any means there looks to be font rendering issues. Originally we had selected the Courier New font to closely match our original invoice. This resulted in multiple rendering issues ranging from basic characters to punctuation showing as blocks across all areas of the document.

Knowing that Courier New was a microsoft font that was not part of the basic printing tool POSTSCRIPT we decided to switch to Courier which is not only a universal font but baked in. Despite our best efforts we're still getting issues with font rendering which seem to be limited to special characters like "#" and "/".

Anyone know what the issue is here?  Please see the attached example of our latest issue.

Courier Font Rendering Issue on PDF Invoices

I've got some troubleshooting that I'm sure will help, @MrPollard.

First, let's run the QuickBooks Print & Print Repair Tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub:

  1. Download the most recent version of QuickBooks Tool Hub
  2. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. Once installed, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  5. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, choose Program Problems.
  6. Select QuickBooks PDF & Print Repair Tool. It will take about a minute to run.
  7. When done, print your invoice again.

If this doesn't fix the issue, let's reset your temp folder permissions:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the RUN command.
  2. Type %TEMP% and hit Enter.
  3. Right-click an empty area of the temp folder, and choose Properties.
  4. Select the Security tab.
  5. Ensure all usernames and groups showing on the Security tab have Full Control.
  6. Once the permissions have been set to Full Control, save as a PDF again within QuickBooks.

Then, confirm you can print to your XPS Document Writer. QuickBooks uses parts of the XPS Document Writer to save as a PDF:

  1. Open Notepad.
  2. Type Test. Select File and then Print.
  3. Select the XPS Document Writer, and then Print.
  4. Type a filename and save it to your desktop.
  5. Go to your desktop and view the XPS document you printed from notepad.
