Can someone give me guidance on customization that I need shown on reports? I have customized Sales by Customer Detail and am close to everything we need shown, but not all. I am using Quickbooks Premier Desktop.
We send annual or quarterly or monthly invoices to customer jobs where we sell yearly agreements. During that year, we send out products for "free", or included within that agreement amount. To track the "free" products sent out during the year, I do $0.00 invoices for all the products shipped at a time to each customer/job. This is just a way to count-down how many products we have sent out in order to see if we were profitable with the agreed-upon yearly price.
In order to see reporting for all this tracking, I have created a report from Sales by Customer Detail so I can see the "service agreement" invoices for the dollar amounts (say for $1,000 each year) and then the $0.00 invoices to show which products have been shipped out. The products do not show the dollar amounts (since I zeroed-them out so-as not to charge the customers for them), so I added a custom box on the items called "Standard Price" and will fill them in manually. That way I can now show a column on the invoice and on the Sales by Customer Detail report, and can at least fill the dollar amounts in manually so we can see the dollar value of products sent to customers "on agreement". (This is the work-around I have come up with so far.)
Then on the Sales by Customer Detail report, I would also like to show the Start Date and End Dates of the agreements for each job since they each start and end at different times during the calendar year. This would be super helpful to our sales reps when reviewing my custom report. This does not show up as a column selection under Customize Report. So right now, my biggest question is: Is there a way to show the job Start and End Dates on the Sales by Customer Detail report.

No, not within QuickBooks.

As a way around, you can export the report into Excel and add the necessary details from there.
I recommend customizing the report to get the specific details you need. You can also memorize it to save its current customization settings. It serves as your record and helps you quickly access it for future use.
